in 2 weeks my gaming life will have to stop due to living with my new boss for 3 months or so in spain while he shows me the ropes... kind of deppressing really. has anyone else had to quit gaming for any particular reason and if so how did it go for you? I cant see myself having trouble though, working 5 miniutes from beach and living with my boss I think will make me too scared to think about gaming anyway.

I had to give up Final Fantasy XI: Online after 9 months because it was effecting my college grades.

It was for the best. I don't think I'll ever get into another MMORPG like that again, but I swear I get withdraw/ cravings to this day.

Had to give up Ultima Online because of the whole "staying up until 4 in the morning" thing. What followed felt a lot like the detox scene from Trainspotting.

I remember when a friend of mine "borrowed" (as in I didn't know he was 'borrowing' it) my Dreamcast and a bunch of choice games, and then proceeded to pawn it all for a few bucks at a pawn shop. Good times. It wasn't that long of a wait to get it back (about 3 weeks or so), but MAN did that suck. PSOne & N64 just don't look all that appealing when you're missing your DC! The fact that it happened shortly after I had tracked down both Rez & Silent Scope, and was playing both, along with Soul Calibur, quite often, made it a whole lot worse too.

I gave up Everquest after two and a half years because of a combination of slipping grades and complete disgust with what the game had become. It wasn't difficult to quit by the end because I had taken two multiple month breaks within that last year, though I still miss it.

I have willingly taken three six month long breaks from Counter Strike. Usually I quit right after being dumb enough to join a clan and being roped into a season of CAL which is always thoroughly depressing.

I barely played anything for a year ending about three months ago. I was working 40 hours a week, taking two night classes at 3 hours a class, and doing about 20 hours of homework on average. I played a little Source here and there but nothing new until recently.

OMG, a so-called 'friend' did that to me. He complained he was bored and didn't have a games console at his house, so he borrowed my DC with Bangai-[0], Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and a few others and he sold the god forsaken thing off!

He never paid me back either, but he did go to jail later for joyriding countless times, so I hope he lost his bum virginity there (sorry for that, but seriously, there's doing horrid things to your friends then there's selling their Dreamcasts).

Ditto.

I reckon I could walk away from video games. The problem is finding something as enjoyable to fill the time.
