I'll keep this pretty simple. In short, I have been a military historian (of sorts) for a long time now. I study military tech, tactics, etc etc etc until I'm blue in the face. Then I thought about what it might feel like if I were to actually go to a national cemetery, like the Normandy American Cemetary, and just looking out at the field of white crosses in front of me. And it made me cry. How many of you have ever had something like that happen to you, and what was it?

Edit: Leave politics out of it. I'm not pro or anti war for the sake of this discussion.

Well, I wasn't expecting Clannad to make me cry, but I only shed one tear, so I dunno.

I almost after finishing mass effect, it was beautiful and the cheapest game I have ever purchased.
When I thought about the Japan disaster I cried, not much, but I will not deny, thinking of all those people, seeing them being swept away in the Tsunami, everything was just too much.

I've never shed a tear over anything that wasn't physical or emotional pain.

But for the sake of the discussion, lots of things have had me close to doing so.
I didn't expect Red Dead Redemption to, for one.

From the moment John gets gunned down outside the barn to when it zooms out of his grave to show the 19 year old Jack, I was definitely emotional.

Been there, and it really can put someone into tears. It is a very unique and humbling experience.

I will admit that I shed a few manly tears during the end of Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan. I already knew what would happen, and I've even seen Family Guy parody it, but actually seeing it was something else. I have to say, a Star Trek movie was the very last thing I'd expect to get me to tear up. I'm not even much of a Star Trek fan, which is even weirder.

I cried the last time I made waffles. Yeah. A bit weird and pathetic, I know, but it reminded me of my dad- who made me and my family waffles for breakfast every Sunday. He passed away a year ago, so... yeah.

(I'm even tearing up now. Damn you, feminine emotionality!)

Nope, but I have not cried at the things that I did think I would.

When my grandmother was in the hospital, we were all convinced that she was going to die. So we all cried as a family and everything. Interestingly enough, she didn't die. She started to get better. She finally even got a room outside of the ICU. A whole week and a day after the first time we thought she would, she died. Very unexpectedly. And interestingly enough, I didn't cry that time. Not a tear.

I'm convinced it's because I let it all out the prior week, but maybe it's because I'm a horrible person.

I can only imagine...I've seen the pictures of it and it makes me want to cry at the thought of so many of my countrymen...or any country's men, really...dying in that kind of situation.

I used to live in Northern Virginia, about 20 miles or so south of DC. My dad was at the Pentagon on 9/11, and I remember the videos and pictures (of course, everyone would) still vividly. I also saw the repairs being made gradually, year after year, until they were finally finished and the memorial was put in. I was there on the one year anniversary, and it's strange. Near the Pentagon, there are a lot of highways (It sits on the Virginia side of the Potomac next to a major three-interstate interchange), and there's one where a local road (how you access the Pentagon from Arlington) goes through a fairly long underpass. The sound of cars and the wind moving through that underpass sounds just like a jet engine. It doesn't take long to connect the dots. It makes you understand it from a different perspective.

Alternately, anything to do with sick or injured cats, especially kittens.

The last thing that made me cry was over 5 years ago.

Since then, I've not shed a tear. Japan almost made me, but I didn't.
