At the moment, not one game I own for PC is sparking interest in me, and its not like I have any bad titles, like I have C&C3, BFMEII, Doom 3 and TES IV Oblivion to just name afew.

I'm just wondering, has anyone else gone through this aswell? or is is just me?

Certainly.

Especially before hopping onto the next gen console wagon, there were great and wide slumps in my PC gaming. Now that I have a console, I feel more compelled to play with it, because that's pretty much what the machine is good for; either that or watching DVDs.

My answer is to do two things:

a) stick to a genre or two that excite me at the moment, and don't go outside of those before growing semi-boring

b) pick up new and exciting titles to keep my gaming shelf up-to-date with exciting things to play

Sadly, I got bored with Bully: Scholarship Edition, around the time I was easily braking into a mental hospital.

You should probably say it little more about what exactly it is that bores you. Super Mario 64 for example gets boring after a few hours of play. But I found that you can pick it up any number of times because the world design allows for so much experimentation and refinement while being completely fair on the player. So you get bored, but there is more to discover the next time you jump in. There is nothing bad about this in my view, because playing is not working. I would never expect a game to entertain 24/7. 1/3 is completely alright if it is rewarding as 64 is... playing is not working. ;)

I find I get burned out with games on occasion. Sometimes I just don't feel like playing anything, regardless of the quality of the titles I own. Just chill and do something else for a bit and when you feel like gaming gain then go for it.

Yeah, I really haven't been playing games much lately. Not so much due to boredom as a need to do something else. However, when I have nothing to do outside and I don't feel like playing games, I just sit at my computer and listen to music whilst browsing the ol' internets.

Worst case scenario, if I'm bored of games and in a mood for gaming, is I bust out the games I have that I hate and play through them. Hopefully as my life progresses and I occupy myself with other things (work, kickboxing, etc.) I'll be able to rid myself completely of this masochistic tendency, and dedicate my gaming time solely to playing awesome games like Mega Man X and Smash Bros.

However, there's something calming about playing Blood Omen 2/ Phantasy Star Online. Maybe it's that when I play them, it means that I have so much free time that I can do what I want without having to worry about falling behind/missing anything.

I do get bored of games a lot, because the ones within my own collection I really enjoy I've already completed at least once, and at the moment the games industry is offering very little of interest to me. If I'm having a time when there's nothing I really wanna play I usually return to one of my multiplayer games on Steam since multiplayer can always seem to keep me entertained.

I don't really get bored of my games since I tend to buy ones that I know I will enjoy time and time again. I never get the bored feeling because I play in moderation so to speak. After going through the whole "new game binge" after a recent purchase, I go back to balancing out play time between my other games.

Thank god i'm not the only one. Was staring at my 360 games the other day:
Bioshock (Completed)
GTA IV
Turok (Completed)
Bully: SE (Bro's, have no interest)
CoD3
The Darkness (Completed)
Dead Rising
Colin McRae (Bro's, have no interest in driving games)
Halo 3 (Completed)
Condemned

those that I hadn't finished I simply did not have the drive to play. So just did nothing for a couple of days, then felt nostalgic so found old pc games. I ran through the original DooM for kicks, the booted up Simon the Sorcerer. Now I'm going through Final Fantasy II (Not the US IV), I got bored with it the first time through so I'm seeing if I can stick it out this time.

I recommend just going back to some old classics, games that remind you why you are a gamer. Games that will bring back fond memories of your younger years. Then perhaps trying something that you haven't done in a while.

I go through these phases all of the time. And I've got a PC, Xbox, Xbox 360, Gamecube and a N64. Normally I get bored of one and go to the other but sometimes it all gets boring.

Wow, I don't feel alone! I especially understand DuckSandwich, I mainly just sit at my comp now, listening to music, while starting at some forum.

And what it is that is boring me, is there is no new releases for the pc that has sparked an interest in me, the last release I had alittle interest in was C&C3, all the new pc games being relased since 2006, in my opinion have been a cavalcade of mediocrity, with a few expcetions.

I'm feeling like that right now; I have a bunch of great games surrounding me but most of the time I just browse the web, read webcomics or paint if I've got my tablet out.

The answer is yes, but that might be because when I returned to gaming recently I bought a lot of over-hyped games like Bioshock and expected far too much from them. I actually enjoyed it a lot for a while, but the fact is that FPS - or other genre - cliches haven't died since the days that I enjoyed trying to get through level eight of Jungle Strike on the Sega Megadrive (Genesis) without losing a single life. They still do the old "leave the shotgun out in plain view and then switch the lights off and release the enemies when you pick it up" trick that Doom pioneered, I see!

I guess that what disappoints me is that while the technical wizardry in games has changed, the basic concepts have stayed the same, including all the things that irritated me in the first place. What's the point of having fifteen different types of monster, from rat to minotaur, if every single one of them just keeps throwing themselves at you, regardless of self-preservation or pack mentality, until you're dead or they are? Wasn't there a little thing called AI that was invented sometime during the eighties, and can we finally see some of its influence rub off on the gaming industry by the time I'm forty (I'm nearing thirty now)?

I think the solution is to play for smaller periods at a time. You are supposed to take a break every 2 hours for health reasons, but screw that; I take the break for the sake of what I'm doing not becoming repetitive.

If you play any game for hours at a time, no matter how good it is, it will become boring and won't surprise or thrill you. If you sit down and watch TV for hours on end, eventually you'll find that there is nothing on that you can be arsed to watch. If you watch a box set of Family Guy in one sitting it will be funny to start, then it will become predictable and less entertaining.

The same is true with games. I've lost count of the number of games I've ruined for myself because I got them home and played them for a 3 or 4 hour stretch. It takes the fun out of it and becomes like a chore ("I have to complete this game now, I have to find these items, etc."). Going at games in shorter spurts makes them more entertaining.

Yeah, I had one period of about 2 weeks where I just got bored of everything...games, music, TV etc. Just played a game for about and hour or two, got bored, played another one for another hour or two, got bored, etc. etc.

Solution is buy new games! But they cost money! Boo!
