In December I got meningitis. It was unexpected, it hurt very much, my life was thrown out of balance. I realised that I wasn't prepared for those kinds of things. When I was getting better and starting to eat again I began wondering. What are others experiences like? How did they feel?
What is the best way to endure these things with the least physical and moral harm? I know meningitis maybe isn't the most lethal or horrifying illness, but it still is very unpleasant, and I want to be prepared if anything like that happens to me again. So if you have had or are experiencing any serious illneses, how did/do you endure it?

To be fair, meningitis can be fairly lethal, I know someone who died from it.

Never had anything serious myself, although I know plenty of people who have.

About five years ago I got a very nasty Staph infection in my knee. Spent about two and a half weeks in the hospital getting pumped chalk full of hardcore antibiotics while being unable to effectively walk because it would cause in incredibly painful spasm in my knee. Needless to say it sucked balls.

A very difficult pneumonia. Which is very strange because during that whole winter I only went to the car and back. I couldn't lie back because I couldn't breath so I slept leaning on something, I had high fever, couldn't/didn't want to eat much. It was rather terrible from that point but I stayed in bed a lot, watched movies or played video games.

And skipped school. So I call it a wash.

I don't know if it counts as serious but I got Swine Flu not too long ago (A few weeks before christmas)

To endure it I lay on my sofa watching Masterchef: Australia, Unfortunatly I missed the Final as I was struggling to stay awake and not vomiting.

Other than that I've not really had bad illnesses that didn't just need a few days in bed/some fresh air.

I'm pretty sure I had that swine flu thing last year that everyone was so worried about.
I rested for a few days and I'm not dead.

I got an infection in my foot from stepping on a sand spur in high school. The progression went like this
Day 1: Step on spur, hurt like hell. I feel like it must have struck a nerve driectly or something because with was a weird pain (if that makes sense) and lasted for a long time (and it wasn't deep or anything)
Day 2: Had flu symptoms when I went to school
Day 3: That morning my foot felt weird, not painful. Just weird. had to travel out of state. By the end of the day I was in extreme pain and could hardly walk. That night when I was undressing to take a bath I took off my pants and my leg was horrifically swollen up to my knee. Promptly went to hospital and got pumped full of antibiotics and painkillers.
After that I had to use crutches to walk for about a week and my foot was puffy and bright red for a while after I stopped needing them. I don't know if that counts as "serious", my blood felt like it was made out of knives made out of fire. And I'll admit when I took of my pants and saw my leg I started crying I was so scared.

Honestly, the painkillers helped a lot. The first day was the worst, but I don't know if there would be a way to actively "endure" that.

May sound weird at first but I had hand, foot and mouth as a baby (not the cow disease) it meant blisters appeared around my mouth, eyes, my throat and obviously hands and feet. I also had cryptosporidiosis as a baby which was really bad because it could have caused my pancreas to fail thankfully it didn't. That's all really, both happened when I was really young so I was fairly lucky to get passed both unscathed.
After reading another post, I had Swine Flu as well, no worse than normal flu really and I knew I had it because I was diagnosed by NHS and had tamiflu, but a few days off college was nice.
