Years ago, sometime after Soul Calibur 2 was released, I went to a gaming convention with some friends who had a booth there to help out. The gaming in question was more pen & paper or trading card based, but there were some consoles set up and it was announced on the first day that there would be a Soul Calibur 2 tournament the second day.
I convinced my buddy, who I always played SC2 with, to stay up all night and play with me so I could "practice". When the time came for the tournament, I hadn't slept, and I just wanted to get it over with.
2 brackets were set up, and I ran through mine very easily, mostly silent as I sat next to my competitors. I ran through the field so quickly, I was slotted in the final before the other bracket was through the quarter finals. I walked over to watch them play, found the leader and stood a few feet back, watching him - not his character on screen, but him. He was trash talking and trying to get in the face of whoever he was playing against. Big, tough guy trying to physically intimidate people in a video game tournament. Well, I knew what to do against him.
Came time for the finals, and he sat next to me and started to get in my face. I jumped up, called the guy running the show over and said loudly "Hey, I wouldn't mind if this guy tried to trash talk me, but this guy is seriously trying to make out with me. I mean words are one thing, but I don't need this dude trying to shove his tongue down my throat."
He freaked, started screaming "I'm not gay, I'm not gay!" The official told him to sit down and stay away from me. I turned to the guy and apologized and then told him to make it up to him I'd let him pick the character I'd use in the final. He thought I was bluffing but I was serious (I'm pretty good with all the characters), and he chose Taki.
"Are you sure?" I said. "I'll double perfect you if I'm Taki." He didn't believe me.
I double perfected him, won a $125 gift certificate, and went to sleep.
Any other stories of victory out there?
