I know there are plenty of "Hardest achievement" threads, but i haven't seen a thread for hardest achievement you just COULDN'T get no matter how hard you tried.

I just finished playing through Deus EX: HR for a second time. In both of my playthroughs, i was going for the Pacifist achievement which requires you to get through the entire game without killing anyone except bosses. Somehow, somewhere down the line i guess i killed someone by a freak accident and i didn't get the achievement either time.

So, have you ever strived for an achievement that you could just never get?

Another example i can think of is seriously 2.0 in Gears 2. Kill 100,000 enemies. After playing round after round of horde mode, i was soo close. and then for some odd reason my achievements in Gears 2 reset themselves and suddenly i was back down to 0 kills.

I tried to get the achievement in Bioshock for playing the entire game on hard without dying, I saved before every new area and loaded the save whenever I died, but after beating the game it still didn't give me the achievement.

The ensuing rage-storm claimed the lives of thousands along with a small planet.

Professor Portal. On Ps3, it's damn near impossible...

It's the last trophy I need, too.

I accidentally threw a fridge at someone in my first playthrough.

That was the only kill outside of boss fights for me.

I almost cried when I realised this at the end of the game, because I hadn't even intended to go for it in the first place.

Hopefully my second playthrough which will start tomorrow will have no fridge-throwing.

My failure was inFamous for a long time. Getting all the damn stunts, the only trophy I didn't have after two playthroughs (which also meant I didn't have the platinum of course.) I tried for numerous hours to get them all but there were two or three that just COULD NOT happen. I remember one of them being that I needed to blast three guys off of a roof at once, and after the game is fully completed that almost never occurs again...
I then read that the easiest way to get the trophy was to perform the stunts as you unlock them and go along the missions. It supposedly makes it fifty times easier because the game GIVES you the scenarios on purpose. Well I said 'F that' for over a year, not wanting to play an entire new round just for one one/two trophies.

Thankfully earlier this year I gave inFamous another play and did get the trophy, and the platinum. I felt relieved even after all this time.

Good god, what's that achievement in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 where you must get 20 kills by collapsing buildings?

Yeah, it was never going to happen the minute I saw that. And before the DLC came out, that was the ONLY achievment preventing me from 100%-ing the game.

Gears of War 2: Seriously 2.0
Dunno if this was an achievements (but it was a medal) Bad Company 2: get bronze star in all weapons (but nooo, I didn't have the M1 garand)
Halo 3: In beginning I accidentally started on normal so I did a new game and played on Legendary. In the end I don't get the achievement or the secret ending
Resident Evil 5: Be the Knife (knife an arrow)...I tried for like 10 minutes or so and then I gave up

Tried to get all the King Richard flags in the first Assassin's Creed. Drove me into an insane fit when I scoured the map looking for the last one. I never found it, and eventually I gave up, but sometimes I can't help but look at that missing achievement and wonder....

You can go into your hard drive, reformat your Halo 3 information, thus allowing you to do it on Legendary and get the achievement since the game will think it's your first playthrough.

In the first Gears of War there is an Achievement for killing 3 enemies with one grenade. My grenades must have been faulty because I tried getting it for a whole week and it never worked.
