Hows it going, guys. I need some help here.
2 friends of mine recommended a pair of Sennheisers when I asked for headphone ideas. However I got a pair today and they're just...disappointing. There's very little oomph.

SO: can anyone recommend a pair of headphones (mostly for use with an MP3 player) that will have a good, deep sound? I listen mostly to dubstep and metal in its various subgenres, so bass is a must ;)
Note: over-ear headphones, not earphones.
Double note: Perhaps I should make it clearer what I'm looking for:
I like the clear sound of the Sennheiser HD 201s I've got, I just want something with a little more kick.

Been happily using the Sennheiser EH250 for a year now. It sure beats the hell out of the HD202's all the kids are wearing these days. If you can spare the bucks I'd recommend a Ultrasone, but being professional studio equipment they obviously don't come cheap.

I have to say though, a lot (and I mean a big lot) of metal and dubstep suffer from poor production, and proper headphones will only amplify that.

Just don't fall for that Skull Candy stuff or headphones that say anything like "GAMING" on them. They're toys, not fit for people who care about their music.

Hell, I use this set as both my gaming headset and MP3 player headphones: the <url=http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/gamecom-777>Plantronics GameCom 777.
Really good sound quality from them. I've had them for a year and a half now, and have no complaints. I do recommend them. ^_^

When the mic is put away/folded up, unless other people already know exactly where to look and what to look for, then they won't see the mic. It's well hidden within the frame.

They're not generally seen as MP3 headphones, though, so they may not be what you're looking for... Still, thought I'd chip in. :p

Those are the exact ones that I got. Maybe it doesn't help that both of my friends are music students at university.

Cool, I'll look into those...do they cover your ear or kinda sit on top?

Try the HD 428s, they have dynamic bass. I have a pair of HD 448s, athough they aren't as bass heavy as the 428s they have a lovely bit of oomph to them.

I would advise against getting Skullcandy headphones, by personal and friends' experience the build quality is shoddy and the sound quality is poor.

I've had a fairly decent experience with the Sennheiser 201s for depth of sound but I did prefer my Sony MDR X200s which were really nice for the bass "kick" you want but at the moment I reccomend the DENON AH D501 set which I am getting next month but if you do have a ridiculous amount of money to spend I believe Sennheiser's audiophile range would better suite.

Just so you know, Skull Candy headphones are not to be trusted they're a scam completely not worth it.

A friend of mine has gone through twelve (yes, twelve) pairs of Skullcandies in a year, each time getting replaced for free from the shop.

Sennheiser HD555, Grado SR60 or Alessandro MS-1 headphones. They're all open, meaning they don't block sound out or in like original apple headphones.

portable open: Koss PortaPro or Senn PX300

If you want blockers, Sony MDR-v6 headphones, or AD700, or anything made by Audio Technica really.

they cover it.
But I've broken two pairs with light use (2 lowriders 1 Ink'D and 2 HESH)

Then I moved to a real nice set that's lasted years.

Are you looking to be able to hear cars coming etc. and retain regular hearing, at the cost of the headphones' sound coming out as well? Or are you looking to block out outside noise and keep headphone noise in?

If your budget doesn't cover anything above £110 I think they're your best bet :)

I'm definitely not going that high :p I'll definitely look into those then, thanks :D

SkullCandy headphones are fantastic. You'll never be able to wash off that feeling of shameless conformity, but they're awesome and relatively affordable.

Granted, I'm not very well versed in headphones, so I couldn't tell you if there are any better deals for headphones.

I'm pretty much looking to block out noise, if I had to choose from the two.

I used to use Sennheisers (EH-2200s) but moved on to AKGs (K141 Studio). They are well priced, sturdily built, reject noise well and sound fantastic for semi-open headphones. My AKGs have lasted me for around three years now and still sound great despite a lot of abuse.

Stear clear of Skullcandy (all style and no attention to their sound), avoid Grado (overpriced and very badly built) and don't buy anything that was designed by doctor Dre. He is a hip-hop artist, not a bloody acoustic engineer.
