Help a Gmod newb

[The Singularity]

I recently purchased Gmod, since I have HL2 and it looks like a lot of fun. However, I have no idea what to do. Whenever I find an interesting game, it is mostly pink and black squares because I never have the right mods, or Counter Strike Source. Also, I am very bad at creating complex objects and have yet to find a reliable fun server.
So what I am asking is what mods should I get, what servers are good, and just basic advice for someone starting out.

First, you might want to tell me the servers you go. The basic addons you want are wiremod and PHX model pack, since those are typically the ones that are most used on build servers. Since it's been a while, I can't exactly provide you with links to them, but basically, you will need to use this program called "Tortoise SVN" in order to get the most updated files for those addons.

you should go to garrymod.org for stuff

go to steam forums and see the gmod section, you will find many awnsers and stuff there


the black/pink means that the skins are missing or currupted
