help!! i've lost all sound to my PC

i recently turn my windows vista PC on i no audio is working at all and as soon as the desktop loads a windows says "soundmax did not load, you may have to reinstall soundmax" also the volume option on the task bars has a red cross next to it.

i have no idea whats wrong Please Help!!

Easy, easy... It's probably nothing really serious.
The easiest and fastest solution is to reinstall your audio drivers software. They should be on the CD/DVD disc that contains drivers for your motherboard. Just insert it into DVD drive, start it, find drivers and select "reinstall" or "repair" option if available.
