Hello everyone, I come to you in a state of crisis.

Genius here has managed to lock himself out of his own laptop (I know, I know, I'm a moron).

and as if forgetting my own password isn't bad enough, due to an earlier fall, my laptop is missing it's on/off button. I can only turn it on by pushing two wires together and hoping that they will spark my laptop into life.

so, I was looking in the f4 menu at bootup, and it gives an option to show password on boot. however, the option to enable it was kind of grey, and it didn't even give me the option to enable it.

I was wondering, how do you enable the password at bootup? and failing that, do you suggest any way to get back into my beloved laptop?

any feedback would be appriciated.

Lysiaboy.

If you're locked out by the BIOS, there are backdoor passwords based on manufacturer. Either BIOS manufacturer or the laptops manufacturer.

If you're locked out of windows, run windows in Safe Mode, the Administrator account (it's literally named "Administrator" It's always there.) usually does not have a password. YOu can log in on that, and clear your password.

but how do you get to the page that says run windows in safe mode?

Hold F8 on start up.

On some BIOS it will also bring up the boot menu, if that happens choose your hard drive (if you have more than one...pick one, if it doesn't work you can just do it again.) Then continue to hold F8.
