Hey everyone. I was talking with my film professor and I started gushing on Assassin's Creed 2 and Mass Effect 2, which I've been playing recently. I was talking about the cinematic quality and he was intrigued, and said he would like to see these games, Assassin's Creed 2 in particular. What sequences from these games can I show him?

I've already shown him a clip of the Sir Isaac Newton gag in ME2, and I was thinking for Assassin's Creed 2 maybe our intro to Ezio up through to his dalliance with Cristina Vespucci and subsequent escape. Also just gallivant around Italy in any locations he wants to see.

Any further suggestions would be welcome. I'm giving the demo thursday, so I want some time to get to the particular sequences myself, or locate clips.

Other games on my PC I might consider:
Bioshock
Half-Life 2
Jade Empire
Mass Effect 1
Portal
Psychonauts

Other games can be seen on my Steam List here http://steamcommunity.com/id/zerotk/games?tab=all

From ME1,I'd go with the Citadel attack. Its probably the most "movie-esque" sequence in the game.

Bioshock, "A Man Chooses, A Slave Obeys". Though a better choice may be everything from the plane crash to when you first get out of the pod.

Unfortunately, many of the games you listed simply don't lend themselves to cinematography. Jade empire is far too talky, and the Valve games all happen in the first person, in real-time. Not particularly interesting from a cinematic POV. Assassin's Creed 2 is a beautiful game, but its cutscenes are really rather boring. Its all just single-camera shots, not very interesting. If you really wanna get him interested in it, go with the Assassin's Creed: Lineage mini-series.

In 'screed 2 I'd go with the race with Federico that transitions into the title.
"It is a good life we lead"
"The best, may it never change"
"And may it never change us"

Powerful scene.

Just play Portal for him. It has excellent cinematic appeal, with GladOs' subtle hints that Chell is a simple one use lab rat, and the way you escape from death at the end. Maybe just show him the last 6 levels.

Indeed, and one I was going to show.

Any games you COULD recommend on the PC that I may not have?

I see you got KotOR, show the traditional Star Wars title Scroll and the space battle with the Endar Spire.

If you felt like getting Dragon Age, there's a cutscene that takes place at the beginning of a battle that shows all the troops organizing and the first part of the actual battle, it's a very well done scene.

Definitely the pinnacle plot twist scene of Bioshock.
If yo're going to do Half Life 2, do a selection of clips of the G-man. Beginning and ending of HL1, Beginning and Ending of HL2, and Episode 2. (Skip Episode 1, it makes no sense without more context than one sitting would be able to provide unless you were prepared to explain it thoroughly, which might get boring.)

Ok, maybe this is helpful, maybe not. I know it's only for the PS3 but probably the most mature cinematic I've seen in a game has to be Heavy Rain. Indeed, this little slice of awesome is a good converation point in both film and game discussions.
