Hello all, this is my first attempt at building a rig from scratch and I want to be 100% certain of what I'm getting myself in to. My goal is to run Guid Wars 2 and Total War 2: rome (when it releases) on high to ultra, but I'd love to play Skyrim and Witcher on high settings as well. I am on a budget however (600-800$) so I realize this may not be possible. I originally started with this:

But after some feedback on other forums, found that I had too much in the PSU and memory and not nearly enough in terms of GPU. So I did some research to try to better understand what these parts do and how they interact and came across what seemed to be a pretty solid budget guide on forbes which included the following:

Both of these setups are nearly identical in price but it seems as though I'm getting a lot more for my money in the second one. I feel fairly confident in choosing it, but I want to run it by a few other people and make sure there are no obvious flaws I'm missing. Essentially, I want to know if this has any obvious bottleneck issues, if I would be able to run WvW at high to ultra without much framerate issue, and anything else that I would likely miss as a first time builder.

The second one looks ok but I have some suggestions
- The Phenom 955 is awesome for the price but it's going to be outdated soon. The FX- 6300 looks like a more sensible choice at $110
- I wouldn't bother with SSDs at that budget. The money could go towards a better graphics card (660ti, 7950, 760) and/or a better CPU (FX-8320).

What AWAR said. Spending almost an eighth of your budget that is at best a luxury seems a bit of a waste when your scrimping on a soon to be outdated CPU.

Also, and it is largely a matter of personal choice, but why Windows 8 over Windows 7?

I've heard similar things from my other posts. The original article made it sound like it would contribute more to the overall performance than any other part so I'll definitely take that into consideration.

I actually hate windows 8 but I had heard it was somewhat more responsive and you can download a program to make it look not stupid? Idk. I'll probably just opt for windows 7 tbh. Thanks for the input though guys, I really appreciate it.
Also, I plan to b running this on a flat screen tv I have. I think its 1080p, moderate refresh rate though definitely on the smaller and cheaper side. Am I going to have any issues with screen blur or resolution do you think?

Also, is adding the SSD later a possibility or is it one of those things where it isn't a worthwhile or possible thing to upgrade?

I would actually recommend Win 8. There is a small but considerable boost in gaming performance compared to 7 and you can make the awful metro thing go away with Star8.
As for the monitor, a model name would be nice so we can check out its specs. Some TVs have screen tearing and blurring issues, as well as input lag which is concerning, especially if you are interested in multiplayer games.
You can always add an SSD in the future, you will have to install windows again though.

That's good about the SSD at least. I'll definitely still consider windows 8 if its a pretty considerable boost. However, that's really worrisome about the TV. It's a Toshiba and the model number is 24L4200U. I don't know where to find out if it would work or not though... Thanks for the head's up.

The second one is good. As AWAR mentioned you should drop the SSD and use the money on upgrading the CPU and GPU.

The TV looks decent, some amazon reviews mention blurry texts at 1080p though. You can always plug a computer and test it but I'm sure you won't encounter any problems with games.
