Help me the door to the room I'm in is stuck and won't open!

*ahem* Yeah I'm stuck in the study and can't get out. Any suggestions to open the door? The handle turns but doesn't pull the little metal bit back, and I can't bust it down from this side. Any suggestions that don't require me calling the fire brigade?

The little latch that catches is broken then. Basically, if you can, try to hit the hinges with something to push them up and out, and pull the door off if you can. Or go out a window, and open it from the other side a different way at some point, just to get it open. Either should work.

Edit- Or use a screw driver to get the knob off there, and work your way out like that.

Ask someone to open it from the other side. Most likely, the knob is out of balance on your side, but it should still work from the other side.

My advice? Your trapped, so you may aswell just pass the time waiting for your inevitable death by starvation.

Failing that, break down the door.

If you have no tools and you're on a floor too high to jump then you have little recourse other than to contact someone to open the door from the other side for you. The credit card thing might work if the gap in your door is wide enough to leave a portion of the bolt that has a slant to it exposed but I think you're going to have call someone.
