I was looking into the Discworld series (where to start and what it's about) and it reminded me of a book series I was interested in reading a while ago. I don't remember the details and my mind might be filling in the gaps with useless mutterings but I'll try and describe the book.
Basically the book is set in a universe where there are many people who could be said to be the personification of certain ideas and forces. The first book(?) focuses on Death, some guy discovers he is Death (maybe by killing the previous Death?) and it focuses on his life. The next book or two revolves around the Personification of Luck and the next is something different.
Anyway, it's not much to go on and some of it might be utter bullshit my mind has fabricated but I would appreciate any help to find the book series, as my roaming around on Google has been fruitless.
