Recently, I purchased a copy of Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64. When I first put it in it seemed to be working fine. I started a new game and began playing, but after around 10 minutes the game just stopped responding to my controller. I reset the system, but that just made it so the game wouldn't respond to my controller at all, so I was stuck on the menu. I tried cleaning it with alcohol, but it didn't help at all. Every so often the title will respond to my controller, but I'm not able to make it past the first 5ish minutes of the game. I don't want to try opening it just yet, if there's a simpler option and I don't want to just buy a new copy yet, either. Any advice, guys?

I assume you've tried different games and controllers. If not, probably do that first. I don't know that much about cartridges so I can't really offer much advice past that. If I were you I'd try to get you're money back once you're sure it's the game that's the problem.

Thanks for the advice. All my other games function and when the bug begins no other controllers work.

It's probably not what you want to hear, but maybe you should just give up on it.
There's always emulation.

Blowing into the cartridge will fix all problems with it. :D

...I honestly have no idea, sorry.

Huh. I don't have any solutions available yet, but I do have something else: I actually find it funny that you've got a broken Majora's Mask cartridge, because I had a similar thing happen to my original MM cartridge. Mine basically fried itself: now all I get when I plug mine in is some loud buzzing noises and the like. I'm trying to figure out a solution but right now I'm in a similar position to you: it just won't work.

blow in the cartridge
bash side of tv, the bigger your CRT the better this works
also off topic but if you have a nintendo stick a deck of cards in the slot to hold the cartridge down

in all seriousness maybe your N64 is overheating? try pointing a fan at the console or raise it up so it gets better airflow
if all else fails just go emu
