Alas, I must finally admit that I am not in one place long enough to participate in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign for more than a few sessions. I know there have to be people who set up times and play using the tools given to us by the internet. I just have not had any luck finding such communities.

Any Escapists out there know where I can get my D&D fix via online interaction?

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea.

I have an understanding of the software 'n such one would use for an online DnD game, but I myself have been unable to sit down and actually play the game because time and schedule issues.

So my first matter is this: Can you seriously commit to regular sessions for an extended period of time? Once that is up, you should find a nerdy community online where you can find people who have the right schedule and who like you enough for you to be able to make them commit.

Personally, I'd love to have someone run a DnD campaign through text and have it operate as a DnD/forum RP hybrid, 'cause that's the only scenario in which I can picture myself able to play at all. I'd be interested in trying to scrounge something up if you're in a similar pickle, though I must admit, I've never gotten a chance to actually play. Something extremely silly, perhaps? I really want to roll my bard elf with a keytar and a fixation on wasting all her spells on glue cantrips to stick bells to everything that moves.

As you can see, I'm prolly not going anywhere from the Escapist any time soon, so...

Duly noted.

The thing with real life D&D games is that friends I used to play with now live very far from me and don't want to do virtual D&D and the groups around me that play only play on Friday nights (if only to cement them as stereotypical anti-social tabletoppers). I, however, have things to do so I can't commit to their games. /exposition

As long as a standard-ish time can be found and others are interested, I could potentially run a game (and of course teach how actual playing works), so if such an idea is feasible I'll certainly let you know.
