Hey all, I'm having issues with my ps2, my mum dropped it and now it refuses to play any games as it always comes up with 'disc read error' but for some reason it plays blue discs and ps1 games just fine but not the regular silver ones. Anyone know how I could fix this? I'm too attached to my old one to get a new one :/

PS2s aren't dead yet? Just......... wow.

Either take it to EB Games and get them to take a look at it or buy a new one (a pre-owned one). There's also Ebay!

I think the DVD reader is busted, I had a similar problem.

the Blue PS2 games are CDs and PS1 games are all CDs so my understanding might be correct, sorry

edit:lol, I said compact compact Disks ^.^

You're probably going to have to a new one. The PS2 was the least durable of the lastgen consoles (2nd being Xbox, 1st being Gamecube), so I wouldn't be surprised that its busted. Luckily, PS2s are cheap now so it shouldnt cost too much to replace.

If it isn't busted-busted, one of the little gears that properly aligns the disc reader may have gotten misaligned. It can happen with PS2s that stand on their side, and can produce disc-read errors. I can't remember the details; I had to deal with that problem a few years ago when I was in a dorm. It may not be dead yet!

It's the laser reader. You can get the parts off of eBay easily enough, it'll be well past warranty so just crack it open and swap the parts. My old PS2 died just the same way.

The reading laser might be off, I don't exactly know how to do it, but try to figure it out and that might be the solution to your problem.

If not, Buy a new one for 30 bucks, they're not all that exspensive.

I'd say just replace it. Unless it's modded, it's not hard to find a new one, even a fat one.
