The Dota genre wars just got more interesting.

Heroes of Newerth is improving it's online mechanics by inculcating some things taken from Blizzard's Starcraft 2, Warcraft 3 and Riot's League of Legends.

From Blizzard:
Matchmaking
Map Editor

From LoL:
Custom Skins

According to Neutral Creeps:
http://www.neutralcreeps.com/2010/12/heroes-of-newerth-20-sneak-peek.html
HoN will be releasing HoN 2.0 on December 13, 2010.

HoN 2.0 Q and A:

Changes:
New Interface
Map Editor
Custom Skins
Custom Announcements
Team Matchmaking

One word? Awesome! :)

You guys, look at his other posts! Silliness aside, reported for advertising. This is advertising, right?

LoL is much less competitive. HoN is cut-throat at the high tier. All depends what you want, to stomp some people with anime-ish characters or go play with Bubbles, the magic armor-throwing teleporting turtle of death.

I'll hand it to HoN for trying to survive with its competitors in the "market". Saying LoL is less competitive than HoN is a bit overgeneralizing though, they both have their competitive leagues and criticizing the art style doesn't help your argument. Although it all seems trivial when Valve releases its own DOTA.

Seems more like a patch than some sequel, as the 2.0 would imply. LoL's got one of those in the works too.
Yup. Biggest patch from them (so far)
Would be interested with how Riot responds.

They're both virtually the same game. Except LoL actually has some of the original developers from DotA working on it, while HoN is just an attempt for those guys to turn a profit for once.

Savage 2 was a far better game than either until they changed to a micro-transaction model, but unfortunately it never gained the popularity it deserved.
How bout you check the amount of updates and massive continuous changes being made to the game? Let's not forget the massively genius reconnect feature that saves u from a leave by letting your team pause while they wait for you. Oh that reminds me, HoN is more balanced than LoL and DotA combined, played all 3 myself and found it that way.

Oh and when DotA 2 comes out, I'm pretty sure both of these will barely even survive xD.

I really don't see the point of getting HoN now that Dota 2 has been announced. I am cool with free LoL until then.

Meh S2 Games was really onto something with Savage and Savage 2, but they totally fucked up by trading in originality for a chance at popularity with another DotA clone.

Besides, we already know that Valve's DotA will blow all of them out of the water.
Really? For some reason I think that the Valv[sup]e[/sup] one will suck.

Not a chance. I'm sure it will be by far the most polished and best looking of a ll the DotA clones, and they have Icefrog, the biggest influence behind the original game.
Yeah, that's the problem... they have IceFrog... I never liked his way of running dota at all.

30 mins to reconnect? the hell kinda players u met mate? Never had a game in my HoN play time (and I have been playing since the beta barely began for like 3 weeks) where I had to wait for someone to reconnect more than 5 mins or so.

True I've seen a few leaver, but those will be forever present.

Well he made DotA what it is. Hell, he pretty much spawned the whole new genre.
Well, actually... Guinsoo made Dota allstars that was the original Dota made by Eul +1, who made the map with inspiration from Aeon of Strife that the first map of it's kind.
Then went like; "f this", started doing stuff with Riot Games, made league of legends.

IceFrog picked up the work after Guinsoo.

But yeah, I never liked IceFrog in the first place anyway.
