Have you ever been upset at the death or other unhappy fate of a videogame hero (or even villain)?

well... maybe the mark parchezzi death, i felt so dissapointed, i bet a good number of people was expecting to see more of that char after the trailers, i was expecting see a awesome cutscene or something where mark and 47 would have a cool shooting each one using their respective suits.

i remember time ago feel sad when saria in ocarina of time said that she wasnt capableto return to kokiri forest, well, i was a kid then.

i was surprised when paulie was killed in mafia.

right now i dont remember other ones

It seems appropriate somehow that Mark Parchezzi's death was just a death. After all, they're just contract killers. To Parchezzi, 47 was another hit. To 47, Parchezzi was another job to do. Could just have been my playing style. On the CIA Agent mission I killed the other hitman before the duel even began. It's pretty silly for something like that to be dramatic in that way.

Similarly the femme fatale in the Playboy mission got a knife through the skull as soon as she went into her room. It seemed fairly obvious from the silhouette who she was. Eve recieved a rather unceremonious shot to the back of the skull or some accident. The crows? The leader was blown up in his office, the woman was strangled in a park, and the sniper was stabbed. I suppose that was my approach to the game.

What I was a bit put off about was the death of a certain Silent Hill character. Life was cheap in the series, but after the mess he survives he just gets offed pretty easily.

Shadow of the Colossus, when your horse bites it going to Titan.

I know it's not dead, but at the time it hit hard.

Front Mission: Karen's death. Her real death. (Spoilers for people who didn't play it, so I won't explain further)

Metal Gear Solid: Grey Fox. Yeah, go ahead and laugh. At the time most games I played were completely devoid of important character deaths that actually had an impact. So when I was a kid and played it, Fox's death hit me.

And Broadband, you know that it's heavily implied that most of the guardians in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time DIE becoming the guardians, right? None of them ever return, all of them go to places that frankly...kill them, more than likely.
Saria's last words before you see her in the afterworld-like realm of light is a scream for help after she runs into a huge monster-infested dungeon.
Your "sworn brother" Darunia fights an ancient monster without the only weapon capable of defeating it.
Ruto laments how she'll be unable to marry you, after (like Saria) entering a huge monster-infested dungeon.
Impa chases an undead monstrosity into a huge mass grave area.
The temple of light's chick (forgot the name) actually seems to die on-screen, getting injured by the two witches.

In recent memory, there is Mass Effect:

Heavy spoilers follow.

I expected that when i had to decide who would be going with Captain Kirahee, the one who would go would bite the dust.
Since i had Ashley along me most of the game AND started a romantic plot with her, i instantly chose Kaidan.

In the End, the drama about this sacrifice was a bit downplayed, but since i talked much to my fellow NPCs, i knew most of Kaidans Story, and he was a pretty symphatic character.
So, for a moment, i felt pretty guilty to let him bite the dust so easily.

Spoiler End.

Also, the revelations about "The Boss" at the End of MGS3 made me sad, as well as the surprisingly dark ending of Dreamfall: The longest Journey.

And last but not least, i second Shadow of the Colossus. I remember just standing there at the chasm for one or two minutes, staring in disbelief at the screen.

Nah Fry. When it comes to the Metal Gear Solid series, I think E.E's death in MGS2 (spoiler there, BTW ;)) is a Hell of a lot more emotional. May not have been a major character, but it certainly had an impact on the rest of them (Aeris-style). When Octacon starts crying, and the bird is squawking, and then the music kicks in.

Epic.

I dunno Mela. E.E.s Death was touching, but a bit over-emotional that it almost borderlined being cheesy

(Exactly like Meryls Death in MGS1)

The Companion Cube no doubt.

Killing Wrex in Mass Effect wasent realy my intention, but it happened anyway witch was a little sad. But what was realy heartbreaking was when you had to make the choice on who would survive, seing Kaidan die was one of the first times a videogame moved me to tears.

True. But I think they moved on a bit too fast when it came to BB. It was like: "OH SHE'S DEAD! NOOOOOOOOO!" and them BAM! You're in the seaplane. I concur, though, they really did try to go overboard with the death, 'cause E.E. was (like I said) a bit of a minor character for such a depressing scene. Whereas with BB, they just... rushed it. :/

EDIT: Sorry, 'BB' refers to Big Boss, whereas it was actually just The Boss who died. Lol. My apologies.

Well true to form, watching Kaiden die after getting to know him was really hard. The companion cube, I hated to euthanise you. I was a bit sad to see Master Chief's fate at the end of Halo 3 equally so Johnson and Cortana having got to know them through the games and the books.

Cube. I was thinking about making my brother off him for me, but I didn't. So now I'll feel guilty forever.

The Nameless One from Planescape: Torment as well as the poor souls that are drawn to him throughout the game. Annah of Shadows especially! Sad ending too... I don't want to give anything away, but even with the 'good' ending there's no "happily ever after" to this particular story.

Also I couldn't help but sympathize with with the villains from Baldur's Gate 1&2, Sarevok and Irenicus. Sarevok was more a victim of circumstance than anything, it's especially poignant if you follow the Tamoko dialogue and have him with you in Throne of Bhall. And Irenicus? He commited a crime, it's true, but you have to wonder if what they did to punish him wasn't just as bad as the crime itself. After all, it drove him mad and eventually made him the monster you meet. Poor bastards, both of em!

And then there's April Ryan from The Longest Journey and Dreamfall. People wonder why she's such a ***** in Dreamfall, but if you've ever played The Longest Journey you'd realize she really got screwed over in the end. Big Time! So it's kinda hard to blame the character for being a wee bit darker and more cynical in the sequel. C'mon Ragnar (the writer for the series) let something nice happen to April for a change. She's a great likable character but you just keep throwing her in bad siatuations. Ah Well, hopefully things'll look up for her in Dreamfall: Chapters, whenever Funcom gets around to making those.

You summed that up well. I also have to mention Wrex's death in Mass Effect as well. First time I played it I wasn't a good speaker and didn't have enough charm or intimidate points. Sadly Wrex was killed when Ash put two into his head. It was sad because his point was so strong. He wanted to save his race. Second time he realised they would only be slaves to the Reapers and helped me "tear the whole place down!"

For Half Life, Alyx's death got to me. But with great relief, she managed to live through. When Eli kicked the bucket trying to protect his daughter, that was just a sad.

I know this will sound weird, but the marines in the Halo games. I started the game and I killed them left, right, and centre. but as I got further in the game, if one of the marines died, I would reload and try to save them in any way possible to the point where I considered it a mission failure if I didn't save every marine. Also, the death of captian Keyes in the first halo, I couldn't care less about Miranda Keyes and Sergeant Johnson. THey seemed as if Bungie, was forcing them on us.
