Hitman Absolution

So, I've heard all over the internet that Hitman Absolution is a bad game, and unlike every other Hitman game. I'm not interested in if it actually "killed" the series, since I have a different question for you all.

For those of you how have played it, is Hitman Absolution fun?

I'm pondering getting this for Christmas, and I'd like to know if I'm going to regret purchasing this. If it matters, I'll be getting the PS3 version, since no 360 and my laptop has no chance of running it.

The size of the levels has indeed been scaled down. Each level is split into several smaller "sections" now so any mistake you make will be forgiven and forgotten when you change to the next section.

The gameplay i think has been improved and is the best in any hitman game. He is the most mobile he has ever been and the shooting actually works if you want to do that. 47 can use most household objects for killing aswell.

WANT TO. Is an important saying here. Most of the game you can go through without touching ANYBODY (for the silent assassins out there). Only two or three times does the game force you into a combat, and even then they are very short.

The levels have many different routes to them and are very detailed, already many people have come up with interesting contracts on the online mode.

Things i DONT LIKE:
- The levels with actual targets to kill are quite few in comparison to the rest of the game. Many levels are just "Get to the exit door"
- The disguise system is a little odd. Basically anybody dressed in the same disguise as you can recognise you. This idea is fine until you get a level FULL of police for example, without any other disguises to use. Or people can still recognise you somehow when you have a mask to cover your face

Overall though it is great fun for stealth fans, this is most definietley not an action game ^_^ There are challenges to complete to nudge you into playing the game a different way. I found the story merely ok though.

Hmm. Seems like this may be a purchase, because I usually don't play Hitman for the story, and I usually focus on the gameplay. Though, what about content? How long is the game, replay value, ect.

Another question is if it's a good game to play around smaller people. The main question is that I'm curious if it'd be a good idea to play with my much younger brother in the same room. I know that maturity is a big part of this, but I'm a good judge if I know what's going to happen in the game, regarding "adult" themes.

I'd say this is the longest hitman yet with maybe 8-10 chapters with sections of various length in each chapter. I may have been slowed down because i did it on hard though

As for how mature it is, it is quite violent with a fair amount of blood (not so much gore) and using household objects to kill people.

Much of the game is set in the seedy side of chicago and South Dakota so there is much bad language as well as criminal activty. A few levels are set in a strip bar with ladies..... working and corrupt cops etc. And later having to sneak through a drug den. If you have ever played hitman contracts, i think you can get a good idea of what you are in for.

I'd also compare the adult themes to in a quentin tarantino film (theres some very odd scenes in those films XD ), i think thats what they were going for in the overall game. This one earns its 18 rating.

Hitman absoution is MUCH more story driven, more so than the previous hitman games. There's a cutscene for every chapter, and the cutscenes at the start of each chapter usually last for around a couple of minutes. It's a typical blockbuster-type actiony story though, so it's kind of generic and not really that good. Not sure if you can skip the cutscenes or not.

The levels are quite linear. It's pretty much a case of "go from point A to point B".

There's 20 chapters, but it's more like 13 or 14. I think there were 4 chapters that were completely pointless because they were literally 30 seconds long and might as well have been told in a cutscene. 2 chapters also are really just "training"-like missions where you're at a gun range, and another where you're in a boxing ring or something. For some reason though, they're halfway through the game rather than at the start, which would've probably have made more sense.
Also, the first chapter and half of the second chapter is just basically completely a tutorial.

The replayability doesn't seem to be a massive amount for the actual campaign, because of how there aren't as many missions with targets to kill as there were in other hitman games. However i might be wrong and you might be able to get some replayability out of the missions which do have some freedom. There's also a multiplayer mode called "contracts" where you can make up your own contracts, or levels, that you can try and do or send to other people for them to attempt. You might get about an hour or two of fun from that. Maybe more.

In comparison, blood money (the last hitman game) had 12 decent-sized missions.







As for the whole "younger brother" thing... probably not. Like the guy above me already said, there's at least 2 chapters that i know of that take place in a strip club, drug references, quite a lot of swearing etc.

I honestly can't say it's NOT fun.

It's nothing like Blood Money, which seems to have become peoples go to point when it comes to Hitman, but it isn't terrible.

Yeah it's linear, yeah things don't make sense, yeah you cover your face so people don't recognise you (if you can't see them then they can't see you) but it does have it's moments.

I enjoyed it. It's not what i'd expect from a Hitman game but it does play well enough.

It's pretty good.
If you are looking for an updated Blood Money, well, you are looking into the wrong game.

This game...almost feels a lot like Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to me. The stealth and gun play are superb, though this disguise system.... eeeeeh it can be pretty aggravating and discouraging at times to the point where you might just feel like keeping your suit on through the whole mission. The disguises in this game no longer grant you immunity but just stall time for when someone has spotted you and allows you some extra time to get out of their range of sight before they blow the whistle on you.

The levels now are cut up into mini levels though they are still pretty open depending on how you want to play it. However the main thing you will notice about this game is how focussed on the story it is.

Instead of plopping you in a new environment for you to carry out a new contract each mission, every level is connected and the story is always there to the point of making this game feel cinematic at times which...I actually don?t mind seeing how they were just trying to do some ground work with 47 this time round and let?s face it he could use some.
So the way I see it is...if you ever found yourself hungry for a Hitman movie...you get it in this game. If you still just want to play a hitman game for the sake of feeling like a hitman well...you still have Contracts and Blood Money.

i loved the new hitman mainly because it didn't have the insta-fail feel of the previous games. it was good to always have the option of going rambo if you couldn't sneak past a guard or find the right gear to blend in... that being said the game does a great job of encouraging you to try for that silent assasin rank if only for the next lvl and unlock

my main complaints are:

some assasinations are kinda cheap. at 1 point i searched a lvl for an hour looking for a weak point only to realize i could just smack the target with a brick 2 metres from the exit and leave before anyone found the body. in one of the final lvls i snuck past 2 guards, hid behind a wall for 5 minuets, then threw a screwdriver at the target and calmly walked away. that lvl itself could have taken hours of sneaking but like alot of lvls was so poorly designed i felt i was more exploiting poor game design than playing an assassin although i'm sure on harder difficulty that might be impossible

too many get from point A to B lvls.
assassinations are cool but there are only a handful of them and sneaking past guards for 20 minuets just to get to the next door is boring

disguise system is hit and miss
it's been discussed to death but the new disguise system doesn't make sense most of the time. if i wear a police uniform there is no reason every single cop in the city can spot me from 2 kilometers away and yet the second i put on a judges robe noone seems to notice there is a new bald judge walking around the security room, surely someone is gonna get suspicious

game penalizes you for killing
i get the point that you are meant to be the ultimate silent assassin. like a ghost, killing only your target without anyone knowing you were there but i would have liked the option like in previous games of doing a complete lvl wipe without ever getting seen killing every single bad guy and leaving civilians untouched however every kill you make deducts points from your score and makes it impractical

It's fun in the areas that resemble Blood Money the most.

I'll put it this way: Blood Money was the formula that worked for the franchise. Absolution feels like an entry that belongs somewhere between SA and Contracts, because it has some of the same linearity of C47 and SA while retaining some of the larger, more open levels from Contracts and BM. Unfortunately, the gameplay exists solely to service the story, which is, at best, uninteresting. Because of that, the freedom and exploration that defined the series is left more like a feature than the focus of the game. As a fan of Hitman, is pretty disappointing, as the game resembles Splinter Cell more than a proper Hitman game.

It was amazing, great story, top notch gameplay, and contracts provides good replay value. It runs on my 1.6 ghz dual core laptop, so i'd pick it up.

It's not a bad game at all actually, but it is an inferior game to Blood Money and it is always a surprise when things start to devolve.

So for anyone who didn't play Blood Money pick that up for the real Hitman experience, but if you just like some modern game hand holding then Absolution it is.
