As much as these reviews look good, I can already see people still coming into this thread and trolling about how homefront looks stupid.

Btw, did XboxAddict just post that review?

Homefront looks very interesting to me because of the setting. For me it would be even better if they would have set it in my own home country, but I'm confident that this came captures the feeling of fighting at the homefront pretty well. I just hope that the shooting action is good as well. Judging from these reviews, it seems to be.

I'll get it at some point, but I don't want to pay £40 for a <6 hour campaign.

What's that? An overmarketed generic FPS gets a 9/10?

Stop the presses, I wanna get off.
Thats actually a damn good score for a new IP.

Halo and Call of Duty will ALWAYS get a 9 or higher, because they're Halo and Call of Duty.

And whenever I see someone use the term 'generic' in regards to any game that features guns, a little more faith in this site dies in me.

I'm not trolling...it just DOES look stupid. Those review scores are typical for a CoD clone, so until people start saying otherwise, that's what I'm going to assume it to be.
The game hasn't even come out yet and you're calling it a cod clone. All your doing is basing it off of appearance, how about you just wait till it comes out to judge the game.

Then perhaps you'll be more reassured in knowing I used the term 'generic' in regards to a game with guns... and war... and first person shooting... and cover based combat... and COD controls... and forced vehicle sections... and set piece events...and regenerating health... and campaign lengths not worth $60... and a focus on online multiplayer...

Fuck it, it's Call of Duty: Homefront.

(Well that IS a joke, but this game is very much generic and I doubt many would deny that. You're an exception. That's not something to be happy about.)

Trailers look too generic for a buy, and no amount of marketing can change that. Even that release trailer looked pretty crappy, with atrocious quality even in hi-def. Not impressed, plenty of other FPS games to keep my interest [BC2, Crysis 2, upcoming BF3 etc etc]

Why is it that Call of Doody comes out with its usual blandness, and everyone praises it, then a bland Call of Doody clone comes out and everyone bags on it?

Didn't MW2 do foreign troops on US soil amongst others?

There are other new releases that tickle my fance rather than another "gritty" FPS where I get to be Joe American shooting Johnny Foreigner.

It might be getting good reviews but it doesn't mean we've not been there and done that.

Appearance, storyline, and gameplay. I mean, it's a modern day (or a little bit in the future) FPS. Where exactly is wiggle room in these elements? The only positive I've heard from it is also the only thing that sets it apart from CoD...vehicles. But that alone isn't enough to sell me on it.
Still you cant just call it a COD clone, the only thing that can be called of COD clone are the controls but come on, COD has one of the best controls for an FPS game (Halo also has a very good control scheme and gameplay feel). They are solid and well thought.

The storyline isnt form COD, you could talk about the portion of MW2 part in the USA but a lot of games did that before especially Freedom Fighters so why dont people complaint about it being a Freedom Fighter clone?

And for the appearence, its the "REAL" look, yeah, its generic and boring but it has nothing to do with COD.

It seems that if a game is a new IP and a modern FPS then it becomes a COD clone.
If it is in space its a Halo clone and if it is a sandbox game its a GTA clone. Stop calling new IP's clones, they have to take gameplay mechanics that already exist and are proven to work while adding a few new ones, that is how new IP's survive.

It looks good to me. Maybe generic, but I've wanted to play any FPS for while now. The whole implausibility thing is huge, but I just take it as a sorta ridiculous version of what Hitler did to Germany after WW1 to rebuild. Shit can happen, and it's enough for my suspension of disbelief.
