What would be your favorite band or bands if you were able to pick music for a horror based game?

None. I'd get an orchestra or something to compose music, rather than pick from today's music.

Also, wouldn't this be better in the Gaming section?

Same here, an orchestra specifically hired to come up with a soundtrack would be much better and more unique. And potentially much more chilling, since I can't think of any song in existence that truly creeps me out...

(if anyone wants to test me on that, by all means, go ahead :D)

Probably an Orhcestra. Only other thing I can think of would be some Instrumental metal or something.

The Orchestra would of course be the guys who did Tubular Bells.

Hmmm... an orchastra is always a good bet, but I find some of Tool's stuff to be weird/creepy:

The first part of it, called "Parabol" on the album (they combined the two for the music video)

Hah, I've heard that way too many times on comedy shows to lampshade funny 'scary' things (most notably The Vicar Of Dibley) to be creeped out :D. Nice try though :p

Modern music doesn't really work in videogames, generally Orchestral pieces work best.

In films/TV? Placebo. Their cover of The Ballad Of Melody Nelson would be good for a creepy stalker film, their cover of Running Up That Hill would be good for a satan-y film, Swallow would be good for a surreal trippy serial-killer film, etc etc.
