How can I use Fraps without melting my computer

So I want to do Let's plays and from what I checked most people are recording themselves with Fraps. but when I tried my frame rate droped to unacceptable levels. even on really old games such as Jedi Academy(2003)


My specs
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k
GPU: Nvidia GTX 650
RAM: 8GB

How much hot is your computer getting? The main reason is because Fraps runs based on you CPU and at the same time so is the game, and your i5 core seems a little low on the GHz level. You could try lowering the settings of the game so that it doesn't take up as much processes and then see how Fraps does.
For me I don't usually use Fraps when I don't have too, but then again my CPU is an i5 with 3.4 GHz so it's not really as much of a problem.
