How come there is no controversy surrounding Saints Row the Third?

Think about it. Even Bulletstorm was making people all sorts of mad before it came out. Isn't it a little odd that NO ONE (to my knowledge) has starting blaming this game for all of the problems in our world today.

I mean you can wack people in the balls with a giant purple dildo and from what I understand, that shit is tame in Saints Row the Third. Shouldn't we be seeing a bunch of Fox News reports about this by now?

Not that I want Saints Row the Third to start controversy by any means, it just seems like if any game was to encourage violence and destructive behavior in today's society, it would be this one.

It's because Grand Theft Auto is kind enough to take all the flak for sandbox crime games.

The mistake you seem to be making is in assuming that the kind of people you're talking about operate on anything remotely resembling logic. They only want attention, so they only go after games that are already getting a lot of attention. It's attention whoring by proxy. They don't actually give a shit about the children/declining morals/saving peoples souls/whatever.

Well it could be that Fox hasnt had a slow news day in a while or that most of its "experts" went and gotten themselves universally discredited among real experts for being associated with them.

Because its Saints Row, its like that wacky uncle who plays polka music and let you shotgun beer on your 12th birthday while your parents sneered at them from across the room.

I would love to see Fox point everything dastardly about it because more absurdity would make me buy it again. Hell Saints Row 2's "With Uncle Busey" video series made me fall in love with 2 when I was already excited.

This and because no ones made up any stupid slippery slope argument for it yet.

Someone needs to come up with the "It'll teach our kids to be terrorist!" argument, or whatever it really was, complaint that they had for GTAIV.

Give the spin doctors some time and I'm sure they'll come up with something. Though with Cain, Tea Parties and the Gay "agenda" BS that people can throw around for scaremongering (Or Terrorism, since that's what it is) and greater ratings they've no need to resort to this yet.

What is Saints Row? I've only ever heard of two games: Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty. I'm pretty sure they're the only ones that exist.

Video games aren't the media's whipping boy like they were in the past. You hear someone decry games from time to time, but it is usually some fringe personality and only really garners attention from gamers.

Besides, election season is starting up. News outlets have other things to talk about.

I think Fox may be ignoring it for the same reason early internet users avoid certain youtube videos: they've been rick-roll'd and want to avoid it again. I mean, Fox News has been aware of the internet for 3 or 4 years now, at least, so when they see info about Saint's Row the Third they could very well be thinking, "Oh, this can't possibly be a real game! We don't want to get Orced again."

Then again, they have been a bit quiet recently...I don't remember them complaining about the child death in MW3 either.

I've a feeling its because saints row doesnt have any pretense of realism, its completely silly, where as games like cod or gta as have been mentioned do tend towards a more realistic feel and that is the sorce of the controversey, also in terms of sheer awareness cod and gta are much easier targets.

Kinda this. Once I might have given them the benefit of the doubt, but after Fox News went after Fate of the World of all things for guilting and indoctrinating children, it just became ridiculous.

So my guess is that SR3 has so far completely evaded their radar OR there will be a news segment in the near future on how video games are destroying our kids - who shouldn't be playing an M-rated game in the first place; I'm looking at you, parents - and mistake SR3 for GTA5 or something.

The old people that explode at video games will catch wind of Saints in about 2-5 years, they are a little slow. GTA is just a big name they have caught hold of. If it does make the news I bet it will be called GTA Saints Row or something.

because It's so over the top, news programmes can't use it as a scapegoat, that is until some one goes out and starts beating people up with sex toys

I think it is because the game is built around parody, it is hardly controversial if it is a giant joke.
