I don't know, how did you?
If you can't contribute to your own thread I don't see the reason why I should.

By... leaving.
Yeah, not the smartest idea ever but I couldn't handle getting the shit kicked out of me everyday along with being not only ignored but belittled and insulted by the teachers themselves.
So, fuck it, I left and have been so much happier ever since. >.>

Shoved my face into my novels and manga. You'd be suprised how fast a day goes when you're immersed in a good book. For me, I had a different novel every 3 days or a different manga in 2 class periods.

This was especially helpful in history class where more than once I got in trouble for dozing off becuase I found the subject boring...

My high school is pretty good. Have plenty of friends, do well in my classes, and there aren't really any bullies. So, I guess I'm just lucky?

Then put that in your first post instead of what you got now, and explain more what you want to know. Just asking us how we dealt with something so big isn't really getting us anywhere... be more specific.

Spiraled into a depression for about 6 years, cried in my closet when I got the chance, slacked off in every class, wrote depressing essays, got beat up a whole lot... only a few things but they were the most important...

Well, I'm a senior in High School now, but all my classes are easy since I took all of the most difficult my school offers last year, so I've just been ignoring most of the High School stuff until I finish my college app essays. If you're an underclassman, find some good friends and they'll be able to help you way more than we will. I would give some actual advice, but there are too many problems I've had in high school to cover them all. If you give a better idea about what you are dealing with, everyone can be a little more helpful.

Just please answer the question. You don't have to attack the opening poster just because he didn't put an answer himself. He posed a question so either answer it or don't.

Oh God, the same sort of thing happened to me. I kept drinking dishwasher fluid Freshman Year. Not enough to kill me or anything, but enough to burn my throat out. I was on meds for a little bit, but actively trying to be friendly even when everyone else seems so idiotic helped turn me around more than anything else

And of course, I would love to be your internet-friend too :)

I went to high school for 4 years... and then I graduated.
None of it had much to do with "determining my life". That's just what adults tell you to add some weight to it. You will most likely end up with a job that has little to nothing to do with the "determining" subjects (unless you're really good and really determined and you're not put off by having to do a lot of ass kissing).
Sorry to burst your bubble.

I skated by best I could class-wise. I knew my little drama wouldn't matter long term so I didn't let it bother me. I dipped my feet in most of the social circles so I became fairly popular. My main group of friends was a group of four girls and myself. I sort of became a big brother of the group. I jumped from girlfriend to girlfriend, relationships tended to not last long for me back then. I dabbled in drugs and casual sex. I've since matured and quit.

But yeah, I just learned to look in the mirror every morning and remind myself that it's all temporary. And that I'm awesome. Also, not giving a damn about what other people thought of me helped a lot too.

Then high school was over... Then life began. THAT'S when things get difficult. Trust me, kid, high school is a walk in the park compared to what's to come. Think of it as a little play pen for people to pretend that they're adults. Then they're released. High school is training wheels. I hope you can get over your issues fast, man. It will only get harder. Much harder.

Honestly, looking back now I actually miss high school. I think it was the structure. I don't do well with too much freedom.

Ooh, now we're getting somewhere. ;)
Well, high school is still pretty early in your life, so the choices you make shouldn't have much of an impact at all. It's not until collage/university(I'm from Sweden and our school system is very different, so It's possible I don't make much sense) that you gotta plan ahead, but even then you can still change your mind. It is good to have some plans though. I never gave a shit about the future and just went along with it, and now I'm completely clueless about what to do.
What I do remember from school however is that it never gets easier. It just gets harder and harder. When I switched from regular school to the specific education one it all went to hell. We hardly had to be in school. Had one class a week with theory classes we didn't need to attend, but I had absolutely no spare time at all. I had to read books and write assignements constantly and since my previous school was so layed back(in comparison) I couldn't take the pressure. Ended up leaving school after a month and since then I haven't really done anything with my life.

As for sex and social life... I'm not sure what help I can be. I started screwing around at a very early age and I regret it now. It's not something you should rush into.
My social life kind of solved itself. I started exploring music when I was around 12 and quickly fell in love with metal. Ended up hanging out with other metal heads, which there were quite a few of in the area. Also caved in to peer pressure in my class by starting with tobacco. It gave me a lot of new friends, but I still wish I hadn't. Have given up on quitting now, but damn have I tried...

Don't know about you, but I'm pretty tired of seeing threads where the OP can't even take time to write more than the title. "How we dealt with high school" can be a pretty big subject, but now we can at least give the OP more specific answers to his questions.

my highscool experience was neither horrbile nor great, it was an all girls+ boarding school, so I supose it makes it a bit different to the usual experience

worst thing that happned was I bombed completley, got a bit depressed and had a "well nothing I do matters now" attitude, and I the real kicker was that I felt if I had just another chance I could have done better, that things really screwed up after one bad phase in year 10, thats what hurt the most

problem is now, while I have a good job , Im not sure what direction to go in for the long term (because I think I have a little more to offer than doing a job that can be done by trained monkeys, not that Im complaining, brings in plenty of gaming money)

but I dont dispair...Im happyer now than I ever was in highschool..yeah fuck highschool, anyone who said it was the best time of your life can go walk in front a bus

Picking subjects isn't nearly as important as people make it out to be. Most schools require a good balance, so unless you are really interested in something like music or drama, it won't matter at all, and if you are interested in one of those specialty classes, just try one and see if you like it. As for projects, I spend most of my time during the daylight working on my education. I don't let myself play games or faff about online while the sun is up. This usually left me with about an hour and a half to practice violin per day and weekends open for friends. On this schedule, even with 6 AP classes at once last year, I never got behind on my work too badly.

As for sex, I had a long-distance relationship for most of my sohphomore-junior years, so we took whatever time we had. Just remember that being a virgin through high school graduation is not unusual at all, but if you do end up with someone, use a condom, and I mean for the love of all that is holy, wrap it before you tap it.

Socially, I never got along with anyone in my own grade, so in 9th, I started making friends in the grade above me and Junior year I started getting to know some people in the grade below me. Don't limit your friends to your grade/school/town. If you have trouble making friends, just hang around people who are like you whether in person or online. I started early and was homeschooled for elementary school, so I was essentially socially retarded in middle school. You just have to observe people around you, in books, in movies, etc. and pick out the characteristics you admire then work on developing those traits in yourself.

All said and done, High School is a giant retarded whirlwind of bullshit that you just have to survive through to let things get better, but if you manage to grow through the shitstorm, all the more power to you.

I had good friends and ability to laugh at myself and the insults others projected on me.

...

and if that wasnt enough, the gloves (jewelry) came off and the hat was dropped.

first of all, it may seem like a huge fucking deal now But highschool doesnt have to determine your enitre life...depending on what you want to do I imagine there are ways to acheive what you want....(which may somwhat contradict my situation in my post, but I think the problem was more with ME than the systm)

second of all...just dont worry...seriously highschool to me right now feels like a footnote in the (boring) book that is my life so far, also...just do what you want, dont care too much what other people think, I would have had been alot happyer had I embraced my "geeky" side rather than hide it/been embarrased about it because I thourght you had to be one of cool kids to be happy in life

also I notice your Australian, (depending on your state) are you going down the TEE (what we call when you get a score that allows you into univeristy) or the "vocational" route?

my other adivce is just dont slack off if you can help it, I did and got "encouraged" to go down the "vocasional/work experience" route..which may have been helpful but really wasnt what I wanted to do...and for a long time I was kicking myself for that, BUT that said that doesnt mean Ive doomed myself for the rest of my life

ummm hope that helps..sort of
