How did you choose your username?

Any username, whether for your gamer tag, Escapist account, even email. Also, give an interesting story related to your username.

I actually don't have that an interesting story for my username. I always smiled when I read the Harry Potter books and Ernie McMillan was mentioned, because the character was a joke and his name was equally ridiculous. I use it here in the Escapist, for accounts that I might use only once, and the Game Center (i think thats what its called) on iOS. Oh, and the Bob is because, well, Bob.

When I was playing this game on my old iPhone, i chose the girl avatar over the guy because the guys were all ugly, as it was a wild west game. Some guy I beat in a duel messaged me, calling me a fag, and saying he knows I'm really a guy because of my username. It was actually the first time I ever insulted anyone on the internet. I called his mom unspeakable things and referenced the pitiful size of his genitals. He eventually stopped pestering me. Obviously this was some time ago, I am MUCH more mature now.

Mine is about as boring as you can get, I'm afraid. Just a combination of two bands I really enjoy, Bathory and Graveland respectively. That's all there is to it. In hindsight I probably should have chosen something video game related instead, but BathorysGraveland is what I use for various different sites, so it was just convenient.

I've used it on pretty much every forum since then. It stands out a bit, and I've grown somewhat attached to it.

Once upon a time, long long ago, in the forgotten ages of around 2003, a pimply teenage boy started playing the multiplayer mode of a little known strategy video game called Battle for Wesnoth. This game required him to select a screen name.

Given that the game involved commanding troops in battle, he decided to name himself after a general from history. The obvious choices were Alexander and Napoleon, but those were a bit too obvious for an edgy and rebellious youth like himself. As it happened, he had been reading a lot about the Eastern Front of WWII at the time, so he ended up naming himself after Soviet Field Marshal Georgi Zhukov, the Russian general widely credited with, if memory serves, the defense of Moscow, the siege of Stalingrad and the taking of Berlin.

When his online ventures moved further afield he took the name with him.

It later occurred to him that using the name of a successful general was a wee bit pretentious, but by that point he had become so used to using the name that seeing it in writing, even in reference to the actual historical figure, caused him to react as if to his real name. So he stuck with it.

And now you know.

I picked this username because I was really into The Mighty Boosh and all things associated with it back in 2009.

Robots in Disguise were a two piece electro band that made appearances on the the Boosh and Dee Plume was Noel Fielding's girlfriend. 'She's a Colour Scientist' was one of their songs and I thought they were cool at the time.

In retrospect, it's a terrible song but the name stuck.

When I was on a Halo Machinima site (For 'Spriggs!'), I wanted to point out that I was basically not a Halo fan here. So, I took from my Fallout gaming Jack characters. Easy.

I've told a few people I thought were trustworthy. Turned out one of them didn't know what PM stands for, but what can you do? Anyway, I'm not going to weird you out with my life story. I just like Skyrim.

I liked the idea of being anonymous on this forum and NPC is a nondescript as it gets in gaming. The 009 comes from an old manga and anime series: Cyborg 009.

I've actually never used this username before and I don't really have an interesting story for how I got it. I just like playing mage classes in games and thought the alliteration was nice. There's been so many usernames but nothing interesting has ever been produce and I'm definitely not mentioning them because some of them were just so shameful. Liking this one so far though.

My username is the same name of my Assassin/ Thief in Guild Wars 1 and 2 which he is also my favourite character in the game. His name first pop into my head when U signed up to this site.

Redlin5 is what I use around the internet for the most part although Panzerlin is another I use for some games.

5 is my favorite number and Red+Lin are prefixes for both my first and last names. I have a friend who knows me IRL who calls me Redlin because he knows I pretty much consider it my nickname at this point! XD
