When my friends and me were hanging out the other day, someone saw a porcupine and somehow we got on the topic. I'm too lazy to look it up. Anyone know off-hand?

Well there mammals right? They do it like other mammals do it, but more carefully.

(This is a silly thread by the way)

The female lays down her quills so that her back becomes a slippery surface, the male mounts her as per the norm and bites on to her back for grip.

And that's it!.

Very Carefully.

I have actually seen it happen once in video, ah David Attenborough, though for the life of me I can't remember how, I'm reasonably sure the female lowers her spines down if the male impresses her enough with some kind of dance.

After googling, it looks like my memory had changed itself to protect me from what I had seen: http://science.discovery.com/top-ten/2009/mating-ritual/mating-ritual-02.html [edit] also http://paulding.net/porcupine.html

When a daddy porcupine loves a mummy porcupine very much, they share a special hug and then babies are born.

Well with hedgehogs the female flattens her spikes very smoothly along her back, maybe porcupines do to?

Natural History programs hosted by David Attenborough, ie ones that don't censor anything.

They climb into tubs of green jello and rub around while listening to "Yakety Sax."

That's the theme to The Benny Hill Show, in case you didn't know.
