I'm working on a creative project concerning Robert J. Sawyer's Hominids, but I don't like the idea of a "creative project" (which has been my educationary bane for years)and I certainly don't like the book. I would much rather write an essay on why I think it's terrible, but I have to complete my assignment (it's worth 7.5% of my mark), even though I don't want to.

Anyway, how do the gals, guys and robots here handle things that they really don't want to do. My way is to take breaks every so often to keep me interested.

Thanks in advance!

I...just do it. If it's necessary, then there is no way I can lie to myself and get out of it. I must do it, so I just go and do it. That simple.

Speaking of...Biology test worth 50% of my final grade tomorrow. Gotta go study!

Smack myself over the head and tell myself to stop being a lazy ass. Much like I'm about to do right. now.

Well not exactly. You just have to be motivated to do it. Sometimes it's a case of just getting sense into yourself, sometimes it's about finding some joy in it (even if that joy's "I'm finally finished this stupid thing.") For most work, I find that there are actually points that you can find fun in that can bring the whole experience up.

So yes, leaving right now.

i mostly put it off until it becomes a problem. by that point it relay doesn't mater if i want to or not (example i sometimes won't pay a bill unless it's a final notice) bad practice but i work well under pressure.

I sort of don't. I'm very, very bad at motivation. Got a uni exam tomorrow, today is my first day of revision...
I tend to still do alright though.

Did my last essay here on the morning it was meant to be in, still got the highest mark.

I save it until the very last minute, or just don't do it- which is terrible.

I still have an English essay to do:

'They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness: and let other people clear up the mess they had made'.
How far, and in what ways, is this accurate judgement of the characters in Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby', and his society?

Uuuugh.

And then I gotta do an essay on the French Revolution, on top of a load of revision.

DAMN DISTRACTIONS.

Force yourself into it, then keep going. More often than not it gets bearable. For me, stopping for breaks makes it worse because I can't make myself get going again. Maybe try blackmailing yourself? E.g., if I do this much in x amount of time/get the thing done then I'll do/buy something for myself. Probably not the best way, but hey, if it's gotta be done...

Can't you do this in a very thinnly veiled way? It might help if you use your dislike of the thing to help you through.

I usually put it off until the last minute and I was forced to do it then, but once I got into college I learned that that's a terrible idea so now I force myself to do it before hand.
