How do you feel about makeup?

I had an interesting conversation with my co-workers about makeup of all things. Most of the guys at work do not like makeup on women for various reason-it gets on them, it is applied wrong and looks bad, false advertising, lost cause, etc... Also most of the women at work hate wearing it. It was also brought up more men are wearing makeup like concealer, eye liner, and mascara which I had never even thought about.

I was wondering how everyone felt about it. Do you like woman wearing makeup or is it a waste of time and/or money? Do you think it actually makes any difference? If you are a guy who wears makeup, do you have a reason for it and what kind do you wear?

I personally only wear light makeup to work, and never wear it when I am home or going out.

If a girl (or guy) wants to wear make up, i'm cool with it. Its not my face so its not my choice.

Women=good if they wear it right, bad if they wear it wrong, okay if they don't wear it.

Men=Only for special stuff, like concealer to hid a zit or bruise, and only if they are in an emo/goth band can they wear eyeliner. And even then it's weird.

I don't mind makeup, but I prefer ladies that look natural to being caked up in layers of paint.

I don't like makeup on anyone. I don't like the way it makes people look.
But if you like to wear it go ahead.

Not too keen on men wearing makeup, but chicks it's just fine as long as it isn't an insane amount, you know?

So basically none of this:

I rarely wear it. I am caught in a horrible loop where I don't feel I have enough experience to put in on right on the days I want to look good when I leave the house and I'm too lazy to practice on the days that I don't.

I generally don't like makeup. With the exception of some very light, subtle use, it just looks stupid and garish. Red, prominent lipstick just makes her, to describe it poorly, look rather generic, and I was never a fan of painting your face with makeup (no colored eyelids and sure as hell no pink cheek spots).

It's okay, I tend not to pay too much attention to it. In fact, I prefer girls without make-up, or at least not too much of it.

I don't see a problem with men wearing it either. I know a couple of guys who I couldn't imagine without the work they put into the make-up around their eyes.

I'm trying to think of famous men wearing make-up, and all that comes up is Tim Minchin... He does looks weird without his "cooky contact lenses and girly mascara".

Yeah, to clarify, I hate really bright colors like red or whatever.

If someone is going to wear makeup, I generally think it looks better in black.
It still looks unnatural, but it looks cool, so that's fine.
Agreed. Bright colors, including the ever popular red, just look weird and awkward.

I think that the right amount can make someone look a bit better, but most people use too much, and look like a blue and red death hurricane.
