"When I was born Pluto was a planet!".

Well, that's how this pattern of thought began. It's fascinating to look back and see how far we have come but it's going to be even more fascinating to speculate where we will be in the future.

So on that note, how do you think the world might be in around 2039? What sort of technologies will we have around, etc...?

I'm mostly interested in the world of communications. Back 30 years ago nobody had internet (obviously) and they probably could not even imagine what internet could be like. Damn, even the internet from 10-15 years ago is so different from the current internet; we went from dial-up to broadband, we also get now HD television streaming and we are already getting into 3D TVs + Blu-ray (that's how it's spelled)

What do you expect to see regarding this?. I know it will be almost purely speculation, but I gotta love speculation when it comes to new technologies

Any other kind of topics regarding the world in 30 years are OK too (wars, new empires, a new superpower, new fastfood giant, new computer OS)

I think we're all going to die in the year 2012. An ancient civilization, which got killed off due to their stupidity, told me so. So did the History Channel, so you know it MUST be true as they're not biased, or exaggerate, at all.

Seriously though, I find it extremely hard to imagine. Thirty years ago we didn't have HALF the technology we have nowadays, imagine thirty from now.
I was watching something on the Discovery Channel in which they talk about the cities of the future. Almost completely dependent on technology. Even the vehicles operated in a predetermined track automatically if desired. Some of the cars were more like shuttles.
The people would be inside watching televison or browsing the internet, while the car took you towards the destination.

Sounds amazing to me.

The only problem with this though is the chance of attacks by hackers. Imagine what trouble they could cause if the whole city were in their hands...

Pretty much like it is today, except we'll have more flat screens all over our homes and more eco-cars because oil starts to become too expensive.

If we continue with the same amount of progress we have made over the last century or so...
well, there'll be a lot more people with cybernetic limbs, seeing as we already have good working prototypes. I love them.

Well I'll be immortal probably, and I second the notion of this whole world being very, very shiny. Or perhaps it'll degenerate into something akin to The Last Book In The Universe's world, but that took awhile to happen.

Holy crap! Is that an in-game shot?

If so, that's pretty amazing.

Mankind will have realized the versatility of bipedal vehicles and will have made them an integral part of our society.

Most will be used for jobs in the commercial industry, however it would be stupid to say that the potential of such a platform as a weapon would go ignored.

Even if we had bipedal tanks they would not be to the point of Mobile Suits, but most likely in the ballpark of Armored Shrikes, and the Glasgow and Sutherlands from Code Geass.

The future is always shinny. In fact I think that should be in the dictionary. Under the entry for The Future you should find shiny.

I think in thirty years we will all be blind from the excessive shine. Either that or you know some minor social changes that will not be accepted by my generation, and partially imitated by most of you peoples generation, brought about by some new technologies and all people of my generation sitting around our porches telling the damn kids to get off the plastic lawn cause we just vacuumed it. Damn kids, they never respect their elders! In my day you wouldn't catch us all running around playing ultra tag in our shiny jumpsuits no way!

Keep in mind people that in the eighties people thought that we'd have robots in the household to obey our every whim, colonies on the moon and hovercars by now.

The woman in the pic from Mirror's Edge has no tits, a cleavage is created from two breasts pushed together, which she has none of.

Two possible outcomes of the future...okay three...

A- Apocalyptic crater, most life is dead or dying and it's sad and drab. The cause? Who knows, make one up or go ask your local conspiracy theorist.

B- Impossibly futuristic due to massive breakthroughs, discovery of alien/foreign technology, intervention by aliens, etc.

C- Most likely scenario, same thing, but with better technology. Hopefully we'll have virtual reality in the sense of "matrix" style, then porn will be the top selling/top hacked material on the market.
