Just wondering how the escapist has their martinis, or what their favourite drink is if they don't fancy a martini. I'm also setting up a bar at my house at the moment and I was after some ideas for drinks/cocktails that are pretty simple. I realise that not everyone here is over 18/21, so if you're too young tell us what you WANT to drink when you become of age :p

Here's my instructions whenever I'm at a cocktail bar:

"Hendrick's (Gin) Martini with a splash of Dry vermouth, best you've got, stirred with a twist of lime"

This gives a delicious drink, made with very good quality Scottish Gin (Hendrick's is fantastic), Stirred instead of shaken so as to not "bruise" (i.e. overly aerate: James Bond shakes his, but he drinks Vodka martinis which aren't as fickle as gin) with just a hint of vermouth so it doesnt overpower. To top it all off, Lime peel is slightly sweeter than Lemon, and contains less citric acid, which in my opinion tastes nicer.

Great, now I want to go to a cocktail bar, but I'm not getting paid 'til Thursday :(

However, I will get myself a Gin and tonic with a slice of cucumber and await your replies :D

Try one of these:

1 Taco bell limeade sparkler + 1 shot apple rum.

Delicious.

Hmm. Australian here, we haven't got Taco Bell. Damn far away country...
Take a super-carbonated Lemon-lime soda, make it ice-cold, add a little sugar and squeeze a lime into it. Fill it with ice and Voila'.

I like my martinis filled with vodka and then used to clean submarines, because clearly they were not meant for human consumption.

Vodka in orange juice, please. On the rocks, with a twist of tequila.

Haha, I'd say you've not had a well made martini. if they're made with cheap grog, they're pretty damn terrible. However, Vodka and OJ is a rather tasty drink in itself, but I will have to try the tequila thing, I've never done that.

I generally can't stand the taste of alcohol, but love the feeling of being drunk. So whatever is cheapest. Or Jack, I do kinda like Jack.

You've obviously never had the blasphemous Appletini. Flavored martinis are delicious but tend to creep up on you.

I think Jack somehow manages to be "so bad it's good". It sort of tastes like the smell of gasoline, but in a good way. I love it.

I really like mixed drinks, but sometimes they mask the alcohol a bit too much and it can be hard to gauge how much you've had.

I don't see anything wrong with pure ethanol. Sure it's not as fancy as all of your mixed concoctions, but a glass or two still gets the job done just fine for me.

I can't drink sweet stuff. My tongue tries to focus on the sweet and then the alcohol taste kicks in and takes it by surprise.
Plus, anything that is not straight liqour makes me ill when I pass out that night.

I like scotch the most. But I will drink just about anything that burns nicely on the way down.

What sort of scotch? i do enjoy Glenlivet and Glenmorangie, but not such a fan of johnny walker, it seems to lack the floral fragrances of some others.

i also LOOOOVE cognac and brandy, especially in the wintertime.

Any scotch. I generally can't afford anything other than shitty cheap liqour, but out of all the shitty cheap liqours, scotch is the kind that is least likely to taste like a horse shat in it.

Though brandy is pretty nice too, actually.

yeah I can rarely afford to drink what I like, I have tastes that exceed my means at the moment. Mind you, having expensive and a low income means you never have to worry about developing an alcohol problem, as you only get to drink once you've saved up enough to afford the expensive stuff :p
