or to put it another way...whats the crazyist thing you've done over a game?

in my case its not really crazy at all...but

Deus Ex..I got it for PC and it ran well enough (after the whole ATI card issue) but I wasnt satisfied..so I got it again..for PS3...at full price

or Mass effect 3, when it comes out I wont be visiting the escapist untill Ive completed it (a big deal for me) as...lets face it, I dont want another DA2 situation ruining my fun (you know..just in case)

and Im also seriously considering taking time off work...my leave is coming up anyway

and I also have this habbit of buying the action figures of whatever game I've played..Like Im owning a peice of the game in real life

so what about you?

Bought Halo 1, loved it. Months later, saw the Game of the Year edition in store, only difference being a chrome finish to the box art... traded in original copy and paid extra to get said GOTY box.... not a proud moment at all, but I'd probably do it again. Wait, I bought the HD re-release on launch day, so I've paid a rought total of $120 for Halo 1 in three separate purchases. But I still manage to keep from being an annoying fanboy.

I bought Mirror's Edge for $100 about a year after release. (Australian prices, okay? Shut up.) A month later I saw it on Steam for $5.00. Swore for a few minutes then gritted my teeth and bought it again. Don't regret it either since I've played the game at least five times.

Like the OP, I'll probably try to avoid the Escapist when ME3 lands. These forums are going to turn into a great seething clusterfuck and I don't really want to jump into the fray until after I've had my fun.

Don't blame you at all; Mirror's Edge is a great fucking game.

Threaten to kill the new devs of a reboot I don't like. Just kidding.

Dressing up like a character from Persona 4 and re-enact a few scenes with random people, which turned out to be the coolest people I've ever met. It wasn't as strange as I made it sound it was at an anime convention and I went at Naoto.

For something more normal there have been a few games I've bought twice. I preordering the DMC HD collection, got two copies of Catherine because I didn't have my PS3 when it first came out and I just stole my dad's 360, and buying Jumping Flash twice since my first copy got scratched and I saw it on the PSN.

I've bought Half-Life four times by now.
When I was a kid, I lost it a year after I had bought it and played through the game a few time.
Bought it again about two years later, broke the cd because I was a clumsy idiot.
When Valve released hl2, a friend and I bought hl2 and hl1 and shared the Steamaccount together, ************ moved away and "took" the account with him without telling me.
Bought hl1+2 on Steam again later.

I know already that the day hl3 will be released, no one will see me at my uni. My education can wait a few days.

I totally agree I avoided the forums while I was playing Skyrim because I was expecting massive negativity.

Craziest thing I've done over a game? Well hmm I just bought a new xbox controller and pink silicone cover for it :D so I could play PC platformers more effectively* (keybo/mouse is great for almost anything but those, for me at least)

I also bought a new 32 inch TV so I could play Dark Souls more comfortably and not be squinting at my tiny CRT bedroom tv. I don't even watch TV lol yay decadence!

[small]*Buy top of the range pc play cave story+ >_>[/small]

I'm probably gonna start avoiding the forums once the demo hits. I want to go into completely fresh and without all the inevitable bitching in the back of my head.

I was strictly a PC gamer for most of the 5th and 6th console generation, so two years back I bought a used Gamecube, Xbox and Dreamcast just to play a number of the games I missed (mainly exclusives). Don't regret it.

If there's good gaming to be had and things stay within reason, it shouldn't matter what you need to do.

Really? What caused you to expect that? These forums were positively gushing praise for Skyrim, even months before the game came out. Granted, there was the occasional grumpy curmudgeon like myself out to ruin the mood, but for the most part it was a veritable torrent of hugs and positivity.

Does the bitching actually get to you when you're in the game?

I won't deny that it can get under my skin, but it's never on my mind once the pixels start flying.

well..for me thease things bother me ALOT more than they really should (Hence why I havent played DA2 even though I was totally pumped for it for a while)

I guess it doesnt matter while Im playing..but it puts me off trying in the first place, and Im really excited for ME3 so I dont want ANYTHING ruining my fun

Well...you know how some people point out small details or flaws in movies that you probably missed? For example, I never noticed the Stormtrooper bump his head [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBQaLuqwtl8] in Star Wars until it was pointed out to me. Now, I can't miss it.

It's sort of like that, but not quite. People are going to dissect every bit of the demo and nitpick it to death. And there will probably be some legit complaints, but I don't want to hear them. Or I don't want to until at least after my first playthrough. I don't want to be introduced to a character early in the game and be thinking of the forum users who had described him as being an idiot.

I just like to experience some things with a blank slate of sort.

It's still more about spoilers, though. Even early in the game. I don't know much about Mass Effect 3's story or characters at this point, and I enjoy being surprised. But that's my responsibility to avoid that stuff when there will be a demo out, so I'll just stay off the forum for a while.

The controls on PC while driving a pretty terrible. Graphics wise I wasn't bothered, just smitten by the game play itself.

Well I expected it but I was wrong in the end hehe. I get the basic idea of what you are talking about at least :p

that said my computer wasnt exactally top of the line

but yeah, annoying considering all the "drive after this person!!" missions there were, somtimes I just gave up and snipered them...(Shogo driving away on his bike was the most epic sniper shot I have ever pulled off in the history of gaming...after me constantly falling off my own several times and.and literally 1 second to go....)

I love Final Fantasy X-2 so much that I've constructed a shrine to it in my room, and the piece de resistance that's going to cap off the whole thing is when I finally get around to purchasing those gun controllers. I don't think I'll ever actually use them. I just want people to know they're there.

In addition, I upgraded my computer and spent hundreds of dollars in the process just to be able to run Final Fantasy XIV on high settings. I love my massive red glowing powerhouse of a computer, I really do.
