Gather around friends!

Pull up a chair, put your feet up on the coffee table (It's not mine anyway), help yourself to any drink you fancy - HEY! No smoking in the house! - what was I saying?

...Ahh yes! Spare a moment to get comfortable, reflect momentarily and share your story of how The Escapist has enriched your life.

-Made a few friends you would never meet elsewhere?
-Have the forums provided the opportunity for you to vent your frustrations?
-Has your perspective on gaming (whether it be the culture, game design, introduction to other genre's, etc) shifted?
-Discovered new ideas?
-Or is The Escapist a friendly place where you can relax and flame each other to hell and back have interesting discussions with like-minded individuals?

Anything really!!!

-------------

"Well what about you OP!?" I hear you ask...

Well, my fellow Escapees, I originally suffered from forum-anxiety, (totally a real thing. You get little blue pills to fix the problem.) so it was difficult to find my little haven on this site. Now I have been a long-time lurker, yet a recent addition to the ranks, but I found myself (surprisingly) taking a stab at improving my writing skills through the Role-Playing section of the forums.

And it has certainly been a wonderful experience, especially talking and collaborating with some extremely interesting and funny individuals!

Like this one in particular: Generic NPC 22 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Generic+NPC+22]

-------------

So, the question still stands: How has The Escapist enriched your life?

(Bonus points if you submit your favorite gif you also discovered through The Escapist)

:D

Well the site did help me passed the time when I was unemployed especially the rp sections. Granted it still do but I got less time to do that now since I hot a job.
I suppose the site is my way of commincation others like it was in High school since I lived in the middle of nowhere with not many people to chat to.
Also lastly the side did provide a group to chat to others under one point of interests which I guess did help me alot otherwise I had nobody to talked to about it.

The Escapist has enriched and influenced my life for four years, ironically during the time most perceive to be a time where people tend to be immature. I have learnt many-a-things from this site, from various people over my four year stay. I have gained perspective on issues, learnt to gain some perspective at all, and vast knowledge on issues and dilemmas that face our society and Earth. This place has also provided me with songs, films, games, books, life-advice, laughs and so much more.

I am currently listening to this on a loop. I discovered it through Battle Royale and End of Evangelion, both of which I found here.

Well, it does help me pass the time. This is probably the only place that I can talk and be taken seriously at times in areas I love. Thank you Gaming, Off-Topic, and user groups. I also have to congratulate the Advice forum for being so damn helpful and critical without me busting my monitor in rage. Kudos to them.

And all of you guys make the Escapist worth coming to. Even though I try to avoid commenting on inflammatory threads, I really appreciate what the posters here say. Not all of the time, but the humorous threads take it away for me. Thank you all guys, all of you make my day. :-D

Hail to the Queen, Asuka! (My personal favorite out of the entire cast) :D

That orchestral piece created such a lovely contrast between the actions on screen and the peaceful imagery it brings to mind on it's own. It made Asuka's big fight scene all the more beautiful and graceful in it's feral and vicious state. Which ultimately suited her personality (or at least what I took from her) perfectly.

However, thank you for reminding me about that lovely piece of music.

*Proceeds to rewatch that scene again*

P.S. Love your avatar! [small]And that statement has no bias whatsoever, nope, never...[/small]

the escapist has given me better insight into games I probably never would have tried if not for the mad ravings of forum contributers here - mass effect (series to be more accurate), the witcher 2, Bioshock are a few titles that I would have probably looked over for example. To be fair its recommended me shit games before too (alpha protocol, dragon age origins), but more enjoyable titles than duds

and also, teh lols. I love seeing people rage about first world problems on this site

[sub]Hehe never doubted you for a second ;). She's my favourite too![/sub]

Yeah that scene is really touching; it even brought a tear to my eye. It just fits so well and I have huge props to the guy who made the decision to put that in there. Who would have thought a piece a hundred years old would be set to the last stand of an anime character?

I like your avatar as well, Black Rock Shooter is it? Admittedly it's a rather uneducated guess on my part >.>.

The Escapist has helped me build my massive lurker army. Soon we will march across Off-Topic and lay waste to all that oppose us. That is how the Escapist has enriched my life... that, and I have met some cool people >.>

Without being too dramatic: It stopped me making a very bad decision once.

I've made tons of friends here, I doubt I could get through the week without them. It also helped me get better at Vectoring [Digitizing images] when I decided to edit pictures to make my avatars more unique.

Also, becoming a Moderator was a great way to find out how forums work behind the scenes. Plus it's a handy thing to put on my resumé to explain what I've been doing for the last few years. (Since I'm currently unemployed).

It's introduced me to some good writers and let me learn about some interesting takes on various topics. It's given me an online community to feel like I'm a part of and given me something to kill time with.

No where else brings me the laughs this site does.

It's like they are just here to entertain me with their hi-jinks and impossible to defend opinions.

Pretty much this. I have started to try and make geeky friends in my area using facebook but since I'm really sick atm I can't go to outings.

This site has made me feel less alone and wierd. :p

It's provided me with a lot of brilliant content in various forms, some great people to talk to and plenty of interesting topics to discuss.

And the ability to just be silly at times as well. :D

This site has given me more friends here than I have anywhere else

Also, where else can I say horrible things for the purposes of humor without getting odd looks from everyone? I can here!

Well someone on The Escapist introduced me to Dr. Steel on accident. Visited a thread someone made about music and someone linked Singularity. Oooooooh Boy! And a few months ago I made a thread asking about how to draw and that sort of thing. Got me drawing. Nothing professional, but it's something to do when I'm all gamed out. Thanks Escapist!

This is a fact, and an awesome fact at that. :D

OT: I've talked to some really awesome people here, and even meet a few outside of this site. Shenanigans ensued of course, why wouldn't they?

I don't really know a whole lot of people around my area that I can talk to about games and random crap. So that makes you lovely people awesome, even if some of the flames and the "dear God, why did you post that?!" comments and threads drive me crazy.
