Games can always have a positive affect and a negative affect, they can help us through hard times and also they can keep us locked away from society
so i want to know, how have games affected members of The Escapist!

I've always loved storytelling in books and film, and a while back I really started studying video games as a storytelling medium. I plan on basing my career and my life's work around that concept. Writing a book about it right now, actually. If any of you want to help me out and contribute ideas or the like, message me: I could always use the help of fellow gamers.

Gaming has brought me, my friends and my family closer together over the years, it's satiated my aggressions, increased my hand eye co-ordination, introduced me to great people, places and opportunities and has shown me the career path I want to take.

On the other side of the spectrum When I played WoW I would sometimes have very sore wrists, apart from that the only gaming related injury I can think of is when me and some other mates christened our friends new Wii (Back in the glory days, he traded it, bought a 360 and hasn't looked back) by playing Brawl straight for 8 hours, the longest gaming streak I've had. Needless to say the next day I felt like shit (It's brawl we're talking about, squinting your eyes so you can watch the speck of a character you control participate in shiny, flashing and colourful actions).

Believe it or not, Fallout 3 may end up being responsible for my life's work, and it's not the game itself but one little piece of the audio that's responsible.

I got hooked on Galaxy News Radio, especially The Adventures of Herbert "Daring" Dashwood. I thought to myself, "whatever happened to good old-fashioned radio plays like that?" Then I thought "with the advent of the podcast, this old content delivery form could be brought back to life!"

So I put an ad on Craigslist looking for writers---and ended up meeting the who's who of theater and performance art in Reno. We're up to a ten-person creative and acting team and I'm getting writing gigs for theater troupes all over town. Plus, once our show goes live in May, it could be the spark plug for an Internet radio station.

All because of an intrepid adventurer and his stalwart Ghoul manservant. How's that for gaming making life better?

Portal's... literally changed my life. I've made several friends I never would have met otherwise because of it, I never would have developed a taste for sci-fi/robots/poetry (I looked up Dickinson and Longfellow because of the parodies in it) without it, and writing fanfic for it helped lead me into writing my own fiction- I have a strong talent for psychological horror/literary fiction.

All from a 3 hour game that barely has any story revealed xD

pokemon taught me that water and electricity don't mix well. I'm being serious, might have saved my life a few times.

Sorry in advance folks, I'm venting.

Games have had that "Shut me away from society" effect on me. I'm having trouble at school (not the failing kind mind you), I don't have a job, I never had any sort of career in mind, I hate leaving my house. They have taken all forms of motivation and initiative out of me.

When it comes to money, I know this is a bad thing, But the only thing that really gets to me is when people say I'm NOT happy. The say I'm a shut in. They say I'll never experience life to it's fullest. They say I won't have a girlfriend and that I'll be alone the rest of my life.

News flash mother fuckers: I DON'T WANT ANY OF THOSE FUCKING THINGS! I don't WANT a girl, I dont WANT life experience.

They say I'm depressed because I don't feel as if I can do anything with my life. /Plottwist you shitheads! I don't WANT to do anything with my life. They say I'm not happy. I'VE FOUND WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY FOR FUCKS SAKE! THAT'S WHY I'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR 15 FUCKING YEARS. I can understand things like "You need a job to get money", and I'm working on that. But don't think for a FUCKING SECOND that gaming doesn't make me happy!

Psychiatrist's are full of shit.

Well I am a lot less stressed and a lot more happy because of video games. They have always been a good part of my life because of the stress relief.
