How is Fox News still going?

This is something I've been wondering. Fox has been shown to lie and twist facts around repeatedly, especially with people like Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck (Even though he's gone) and so on. So how do they stay afloat casting themselves as a news source? Isn't there anything about news organizations shown to be lying about things that could end up biting them on the ass?

I'm going to assume that they sacrifice children. I'm pretty sure that's correct. (99.99999999~%)

Alright, let me ask this, what would you have in place of Fox News?

I'm asking this because it's good to have a differing point of view other than something like MSNBC and CNN.

EDIT: I'm not supporting Fox News and I'm not a fan of that source, but I'm curious.

It's because News Corporation is a company with a legitimately robust business model. That's about it.

Oh and because despite all the crying, a conservative opinion will always make money in the US.

Me personally I generally watch stuff like BBC because they dont pick a side.

But I didn't make this because I just want FN gone, I just am thinking that a news organization, something that gives information, should be held accountable for what they say, people base a lot of things off of this. And even with me being a conservative, I know they lie all the time, but some people believe pretty much everything they say.

Fair enough, and I'm glad that this is something different, and sorry if I sounded like I was attacking you.

Although I'd like to think it's mainly the editorial personalities that are not doing that news station any favors. O'Reilly, Hannity, and that one with the five people talking that make me want to run into traffic screaming. I don't watch FN mainly because I don't want to hear opinions, so I just read my news from places like the BBC, funny that you mention that.

I guess as an independent I just don't want someone's editorial, but just the facts.

Not a lot of Americans care, unfortunitly. There's plenty who don't care about fact checking, or even facts. They take the broadcaster's word for it, and to back it up they cite to themselves Faux New's slogan, "Fair and Balanced".

Many viewers who see it as the only news source worth watch, because it's "fair and balanced" and because everyone else is part of the consiracy-ridden "lame-stream/liberal media" (you don't agree with them, then you're part of the mainstream, liberal media who's out to smear good, hard-working, do-no-wrong Republican politicans), means you'll always have a view-base which is like dollar signs to advertisers.

Being owned by Ruport Merdock (I know I spelt it wrong) doesn't hurt either.

Something worth checking out for anyone who doesn't already know the story and like to hear about Faux News.

EDIT:

Thinking about it know, I'm really curious about what an American presidential election would look like if Dumb Fux News was replaced with a conservative version of a serious news source like CNN. We might actually get somewhere in a civilized manner with real candidates.

I think it's a mix of people who don't do their research, and people who believe the extreme right-wing, and false, stuff they say, despite evidence (heads in the sand).

The actual journalism segments of the channel are completely fine because it's pretty hard to screw up reporting facts, though CNN seems to have lost the ability to do so without looking ridiculous (LOOK AT OUR TOUCH SCREEN WALL!!! NEWS OF THE FUTUUUUUUURE!!!).

The opinion/talk show parts are the parts people have issue with, and for good reason. But Fox News is nothing special in the news media world.

This really belongs in R&P....

As for why they're going? Because people watch their network, and their shows. Same with MSNBC

One of the most scary things about the USA. There are people who watch them, millions of people, and believe and agree with every word that comes out of their mouths. There are people who agree that women that want insured birth control are whores. There are people who think president obama is a Nazi/racist/extremist/muslim who was not born in this country.

And there are millions of them. and honestly there is nothing we can do about FOX News. They have the freedom to say whatever they want under the first amendment of the constitution. All we can do is sneer at them and try to show people the truth.

This really, most of the time it's a perfectly legit news source, reporting truthfully about important news stories, with maybe a slight right wing slant, but you'll find bias on any news channel, intentional or not.

Fox News has been running 24/7 for decades, and we have maybe a couple dozen clips where they lose the plot and go off on some stupidly biased rant. A handful of times out of decades of perfectly acceptable and accurate news reports.

Yes, don't believe everything you hear on the news, but that includes the people that call out Fox News as the antichrist and portray it as the next Disney villain, because they most likely have their own motives and agendas to push, and we can get so engrossed with throwing rocks at the monster in front of us that we don't realise there's an equally corrupt monster behind us handing us the rocks.

OT: They are popular because they reinforce stupid views. Views people hold because they watch Fox News. A never ending circle.
This. They have discovered the perfect business model. Instead of being an unbiased source of factual evidence they simply tell people what they want to hear. They have discovered that people have certain views and are more like to listen to someone who spouts the same views. So they get big ratings and big profits. I don't even mind that so much. I just wish they'd remove the word "news" from their shows. They aren't news, they are talk shows. Calling themselves news sullies what was once a grand institution that was a spiritual "fourth" branch of government, helping to keep the rest of government in line instead of furthering the ideals of the people in government they support.
