I know we've had these conversations before, but I just was curious about how my fellow Escapists' countries are represented, mainly in the entertainment industry. I'm Canadian, and as such we never really get any notice in the entertainment industry, excluding our horrible movies and TV shows (except Corner Gas), or we are pictured as the meek, polite neighbours up north. In the anime world which tends to have characters from the USA, Russia, China, etc. Canada rarely gets any notice. Once was in G Gundam with a lumberjack, and the other was in Hetalia where Canada was represented as a meek, polite character who was often forgotten about by everyone (even his father, Britain).

So fellow Escapists, how is your country generally represented in the entertainment industry? Are you from communist Russia, or uptight Britain, or perhaps you are considered a terrorist (I'm serious HERE, not joking)?

If your from my neighbours down south, how are people from your state usually represented?

Wyoming has two conflicting images associated with it, We are labeled the Equality State, but were famous for this one trial for a man who was murdered for being gay *often sited as the reason for Laws being passed nationwide labeled Hate Crimes*. We are also called the gay cowboy state, because the movie Brokeback Mountain took place here and we are officially known as the Cowboy state, though I believe Texas also gos by the Cowboy state.

Ultimately my state finds pride in the amount of hypocrisy its able to get away with.

I'm from New York. Let's see...

A fuckton of shit happens in NYC in mainstrea fiction, from alien invasions (Though I hope MIB 3 has some scenes set (and maybe filmed) in my hometown, which is known for its UFO sightings) to giant monster attacks.

I seem to recall Canada being mentioned in an episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I believe the main antagonist of that particular episode was the son of the Canadian ambassador to Japan.

Poland.

According to 'Polish Jokes' we're idiots, and according to everyone, we're people who fight with Russians for the 'biggest drunkards in the world' title.

On the bright side, People seem to acknowledge the awesomeness [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epeQwq-aYV0] of Polish soldiers [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIg1pZgMGRk].

Also, we made Painkiller and The Witcher :p

Denmark.
Asia thinks we have polar bears in the streets.

Middle east thinks we are insensitive assholes.

The west. Hmmm, not sure. But Sweden thinks we´re racists. But who care about those moonshining hillbillys.

We don´t contribute to popculture as much as others. But when we do the result is Hitman and unfortunally Kane and Lynch. Movie Buffs may also know Bille August and maybe Susanne Bier.
And a Dane designed the Operahouse in Sidney

England? I would rather like to think it's portrayed as a veritable medley of upper class, top hatted gentlemen dontcha know. What ho, pip pip and all that other tosh.

Regrettably, within the next 5 years I see the stereotype moving towards "Alreet, fuck aye wif a can o' cheap beer and mah ho wot ah shag. Ahm 12 init".

This very possible change of events saddens me.

Legal weed. Not that I approve of it, but hey, it at least makes the Netherlands famous and gets us some tourists.
