Personally, I don't understand people who want a lot of kids. It's just kinda creepy.
I don't think I could manage any more than two, seeing as my parents are having such a hard time just managing me (financially, mostly).

There's also a moral side to it too. Since we know that the world is going to be way overpopulated in a few decades, it seems we have an obligation to not have too many kids. What's the figure being thrown around? 9 Billion by 2050?

I'm a big fan of adoption for people who want large families, at least it's not putting anything extra into the population.

What do you guys think?

Bonus: what do you want to call your kids?

I personally think 2 should be the maximum, as a way of dealing with overpopulation.

However, that is "immoral". Personally, I think it's more sensible than the potential futures.

I will worry about what I want to call my kids when I get a wife.

I don't want any kids. Partially because they take away from me time and partially because I would make a terrible father.

No, I don't think its ethically wrong to have more than two kids. I do think that having kids for the sake of having more kids is a bit wonky though. As long as you can support them, I'm fine with it.

I'd go for three.
I love children.
And, yes, it actually might be immoral.
But, hey, with the ammount of people who refuse to have kids...

No it isn't immoral to have more then 2 kids. It is fine. However I believe that bringing kids into a family that can't support them (any number) is wrong so that could contribute to the idea. I personally want a nice and normal Wife and 2 kids. A boy and a girl. And I was thinking of the names Logan and Lily. Though I might change them.

I don't know what I'll call my kids. I'll cross that bridge when I need to.

And I don't think it's immoral to have more than 2 kids as long as the parents can and will care for the children, in all senses of the word "care". What would be more immoral would be to limit the number of kids people can have. That idea just doesn't sit right with me.

I don't want any children. They bother me, I have a very short temper and I have never felt maternal, and don't think I could.
Two should really be the maximum (the idea of having twins and choosing one while killing the other upsets me slightly), but in the case of triplets and suchlike, exceptions should be made.
More than is necessary is unfair, on the kids, as chances are they'll have less attention and more problems growing up. Parents wouldn't be able to support large numbers of children without support from the government in most cases. Also, here schools are already underfunded and overcrowded, not unlike the rest of the world.
Save the planet, do it in the butt.

But no, having more than 2 kids is not immoral. Having more kids than you can support is immoral. If you can raise five to six kids in your hippy/mormon commune, or your fancy mansion, or just on your own, go for it. It only becomes immoral once you go outside your means.

Three is a good number. You assume that one will make a stupid descision and kill themself, which scares the other two into being sensible human beings. Then it isn't immoral. And if you raise them right, you are putting 3 reasonable, rightminded people out in the world to come up with a better solution than everyone stop procreating. Especially since really retarded people seem to make it their mission to knock up as many chicks as possible, the world could use some people capable of intelligent thought. Seriously, has anyone here seen Idiocracy? We do not want that to happen.

I dont think haveing more than 2 is immoral. Its immoral to have children you cant provide for, ut if you can provide for 4 kids there is nothing wrong with having them.

I would like 2 though, Thomas and Evie

I don't think it is immoral to have more than 2 kids if you are working and can pay for them.

What I do find immoral is parents who purposefully have copius amounts of kids so they can get more state benefit...that is immoral. So are couples who have IVF (or is it IFV? I dunno?) if they can't have kids, they should adopt instead; if they don't want to adopt then they don't want kids that bad do they? Q.E.D

Number 3, the world is fucked. Seriously, we're all going to die, and quite quickly too. Probably not in our lifetime, but certainly soon. I wouldn't want my children or my childrens children to go through that kind of pain.
I rarely see other people use this as a reason for not having kids, but it has been a factor for me for a while now - I think it's a fantastic reason to stay childless, but most people are too preoccupied with their stupid internal clocks to even consider such things.

The only reason I can think of for having children would be for the novelty value (wow, that thing is like half me!), but I only have to look at my army of brothers and sisters, ranging from 1 to 21 to know that, although babies might be cute (sometimes - mostly they're fucking ugly), what they grow up into often isn't.

Not to mention that they're a financial drain (I don't want a highly paid job, so I'd be pretty strapped if I had ankle-biters running around everywhere) and that people who have them usually immediately become very boring.

Wait, so a bunch of people are saying that it's not immoral as long as you can afford to raise your kids. That doesn't address the long-term overpopulation problem though, why not just adopt kids from abroad since that's where most of the overpopulation is happening? That way, you can reduce the number of children brought up in poverty while also having your 'own'.

That's a big assumption though. There's nothing to say there wont be a massive decrease in birth rates between now and then. I come from a family of four children, like alot of my friends and people my age,and the reason simply being my parents couldnt afford/didnt want to use contracepion every time. You can even see it now with younger families that have moved into my area, that theyre getting smaller and smaller, one, maybe two kids max. Or wars etc etc that will decrease the current figure. 9 billion doesnt even sound mildly like over population.

I don't know how many children I'll have. I know I want some anyway.
