I am new to the forums so hello to the Escapist community, but I have been following the forums for years now, until I finally decideded to make an account.

So anyway I just like to mention that does anyone remember the channel G4 (formally TechTV?) it was gamers go to channel on TV before the internet gaming sites pretty much replaced it. But back than this was all we have. So anyway how many of remember this specific show called Icons; which was later renamed Gamer Makers? Because having watching it recently I have been smashed in the head with a Nostalgia Hammer. The show pretty much talks about the history of franchises, publishers, famous persons in gaming, etc.

Mind you this show is INCREADIBLY dated since it was airing around 2001 to 2004 around that time. But still it was a nice trip down memory lane. Its on youtube right now:

OH GOD, I remember G4 - specifically X-Play, when it didn't take itself so seriously. Amazing little skits like Splinter Cell Bob and Steve, hilarious reviews, repeated jokes towards the interns... Hell, it's because of X-Play that I ever came to the Escapist when they had preview clips of Zero Punctuation for a while. That led me to the LoadingReadyRun gang, MovieBob and Jim Sterling.

*sigh* Good times...

That channel was my JAM, son!! They had a show which was basically a miniature-sized e-sports competition, a show that <url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wired_For_Sex>talked about sex and technology, a show that <url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime_Unleashed>showcased anime, and a show that <url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinematech>showcased video games in general with an alternate series that showcased the explicit side to video games! And that's not even including the more well-known series like X-Play, Attack of the Show, and Cheat!! Or how they tried to showcase their older programming through a block called G4 Rewind, which reminded us that they use to have shows like Portal, Judgment Day, and Filter on their network... Too bad I had DirecTV at the time and ended up loosing that channel in 2010, so I could see their final sigh-off in 2012...

Anyway, Icons was definitely a show I would always want to tune into, despite them being re-runs when I saw them and the ever-growing Cheaters and Cops blocks were freeing up my time to watch other programming on other channels... Sure, I still miss the TechTV-turn-G4 days, but it was an end of an era back then and a good chunck of us thought that Rev3games would be that little substitute for our craving for the good-old days in a modern fashion... *sighs* Now, I feel like watch some Stan Lee experience...

Ahhh, G4 before it went dumb.

I just loved X-Play, Adam and Morgan had this chemistry between them and they were brutally honest and funny about the games.

That's how I found out about ZP and this site.

Ah, memories.

I remember what G4 was before it was G4, I remember TechTV and the amazing shows they had, not to mention the amazing segments. Like on the Screen Savers when Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton discovered a hard drive with glass platters.

It still makes me laugh seeing it all these years later.

All the G4 TV icons are to me are some sell outs and a group of gigantically inferior replacements, to the greatest Cable channel that ever existed, with the greatest shows and greatest personalities.

G4 has gone the way of the dinosaur and all I can say is good riddance.
