How many people write for pleasure?

No I am not talking about that sort of pleasure when you shut the blinds, hope no-one comes home and makes you delete your internet history afterwards. I am talking about the simple pleasure of sitting down, thinking a good while then writing a story or poem inspired by your thoughts.

I personally do this quite a lot, but unfortunately I am the only person I know who does, and so I have no real idea of how many like me there are. I write both novels and poetry, although more often the latter due to lack of time really. Well anyway here is a taste of my latest work and please share your own! Oh by the way all usual rules apply, no being mean to each other, lets all play nice children =)

These bells that rang in their ears,
And calms this troubled mind,
The view I see from where I sit,
A sight where two tightly bind,

Many more sat here and more heard
The sound, More loved and lost and
Breathed this ground, For those who were born,
And for those whom this, is a burial mound,
From the highest lord to lowest hound

Pure and sweet the earth sits still,
Upon this once sacred hill,
How many sat and listened until,
Their sitting became lying on this ancient build?

Their breaths mimic mine in times to come,
And in times gone past, their breaths are done,
Under this blessed sky, under the moon and sun,
They all wait patiently, Mother, Daughter, Father and Son,

Twilight comes upon me now, as it has before,
As it did upon the holders, of now ancient lore,
But I wait as they did, and listen and sit,
I?ll be one of them, and I?ll do my bit,
For I am not the first, and there will be more,
Maybe one day, these words will be lore

Personally, I love to write! Poetry, fiction, nonfiction... anything but assigned essays, and even those can be good if they're on a fun topic. I won't post any here but interested parties can check out http://natural20.deviantart.com

I sometimes write short articles purely because I enjoy it. I often find I can do alot of things quite well if I find them interesting enough, although writing was a surprise for me being dyslexic.

I wish I did. Every now and then I'll get idea for a novel or short story, but when I sit down to flesh it out or start writing, my inspiration and motivation dry up pretty quickly, so I never really get anywhere.

I've been writing stories since I was... I dunno, 14 or something.

It's purely for myself though. To be honest, I'm a pretty shitty writer, especially when it comes to longer stories.

I've been writing for the joy of it for a long time....but I delete my history and such anyway, just because I'm paranoid like that. :p

But yeah, I have about 6 notebooks around which I have written in over the years. Its a damn long story....

I've written a (first draft of a) 100-page novel and about 713 lines of poetry in 29 poems, along with a few other things. This year, I'll be writing another novel in November.

I started writing a story again today after a two year break... Feels good to lose myself in it again.

I used to write, but then I got bored of it and still haven't gone back. If I wrote stories based on my daydreams, I have to say it would be pretty awesome shit. Thing is, I'm just lazy...

Even if I had to deal with deadlines, edits, publication schedules, publicity and the sporadic nature of how most authors get paid, I'd prefer writing as a career over most of the jobs I've held in my life, including this one. I love to write, and I'd like to think I can make a living of some kind doing it.

Yes, I do. At first it was a short story I wrote for someone, but I'm expanding it. I do enjoy writing, but it's becoming a bit of a chore.

Ever now and again I do, but usually I need some motivation to write. Once I start though, I really enjoy it.
I'm going to post a rough draft of my newest school essay, and a play I'm writing for school to get some feed back. Mostly because I don't want to get up on the stage and find out that all the jokes I wrote suck.

I started writing a book when I was ten and am still trying to write it today. However the story has changed so drastically so many times that I am still working on the first chapter. I constantly am juggling the alignment of characters at different points in the story between revisions. My main character has changed so many times, at one point I ended up revising the entire story that I had and taking my main character at the time and splitting him into two sub characters and then creating a new main from scratch.

Though chaotic at times I thoroughly enjoy it, it allows me to be unlimitedly creative.

I write for a well known Croatian gaming e-zine. Well known in Croatia, that is. I love writing.

I do.

Or, rather... I used to. I haven't written anything in a while because I just can't find inspiration at the moment. My head's bursting with ideas, but I just can't put them on paper and make them sound... not retarded. Hopefully, my inspiration will come crawling back eventually, though. It usually does.
