How many times do press the clicker when you lock your car?

I have an apartment which faces a parking lot. I have a curtain in front of my bedroom window which blocks headlights that shine through whenever people park in front of my window late at night. Last night while I was laying in bed just on the cusp of sleep, someone parked outside my window. I've gotten used to this now, so the light and initial honk of the car's horn when they locked it didn't get to me.

But after a short pause, they proceeded to press the clicker FOUR more times, and then honks the did wake me up and kept me up for a while since I wondered what moron presses their clicker FIVE times in the middle of the night. Are you that unsure all of the doors are locking when you press it? Why not lock it manually if you're that worried about it?

So, Escapists, do any of you possess this WONDERFUL little quirk? My car is a keyless car, so all I have to do is press a button and it makes a delightful beep when it locks and unlocks. No harsh honking I plague people with at night.

I sometimes end up accidentally pressing the lock button on my keys a bit too much and I end up locking it twice. But no more than that. I can only imagine how obnoxious having to deal with four or five honks at night when you're trying to sleep would be.

Out of habit, I usually press the "clicker" twice to make sure all four doors of my car lock the way they are supposed to.

My car will then beep twice, but I make sure to not do it any more times than that as I know how annoying a beeping car can get.

I usually press it twice. Once by reflex without thinking, and once more to make sure I actually locked it and didn't imagine it. My car doesn't beep or honk though, it just flashes the emergency lights twice to let me know I locked it.

My car doesn't beep if it is already locked (it will just flash instead).

That said, I will usually push the lock button at least three times. Because I'm crrrrazy.

I'm going to agree with general consensus here and say twice. It's nice to be able to double-check.

(Also, this seems like a topic that could really benefit from a poll.)

My car has keys that you have to put in the door and turn to open and/or close!
So there's no clicking or bleeping or honking or whatever.

Used to be have a key only sort of car, but now I'm a double-tapper. Mainly because it unlocks the whole car (single tap unlocks just the driver's door, but I swear to you, this is the only time I remember these sorts of things- never when I'm in front of the damn thing).

I click once, then I try opening a door. If it doesn't work then I know it's locked.
When I unlock the car I gotta click it at least twice though(well, four times as you gotta double tap it). Often it doesn't respond at all and sometimes the lights flash, but it doesn't unlock the doors. I reckon the 14 year old batteries are getting weak.

My car has no alarm. The tech in it makes it pretty hard to steal. Its not a brand that is commonly targeted for theft. It is hard to find in a parking lot because hitting the lock button won't make the lights flash or horn beep

Oh ho ho, as if any of my cars have been sufficiently technologically advanced to have a beeper dongle thingumy.

My car doesn't honk when I press the clicker. It clicks once when it locks, then a very dull, muted click every time after that. I usually do four or five times just to make damn sure it's locked (as I keep some CDs and stuff in there when I'm not driving). Force of habit, really.

LOL - Clicker?

I do insert my key and turn it. I am lucky my car has a central locking mechanism.

My car is nearly 30 years old...

To the question: If i HAD a wireless thingie... i would probably still use the key... hard to get that out, i would assume.

Yup. Exact same situation here. Two presses, for the same reason. My car works the same way, too.
