In middle school I was made fun of and called a girl a lot because of my long hair (like shoulder length). When I got to highschool that stopped but now I go to an alternative highschool and all of a sudden kids are calling me a fag and retard along with the other 15 kids who go there. It doesn't bother any of us because we would take a bullet for each other.

I used to be fairly popular in secondary school (English equivalent of High School perhaps?), had a close knit group of friends who were dubbed the nerds, but not in a mocking way, we were actually a pretty well liked group.

Now I've been at uni for about 8 weeks, and there are only a handful of people I would actually call friends, I see a lot of people in classes and manage idle chit chat for a while, but outside of class I'm pretty much alone most of the time.

I'm hated by about half my school because:
1) I'm atheist
2) I support gay marriage

I have a close group of friends though, so I don't really care.
I can never understand why people would be like that to you. Mind you I'm Scottish and most of us are atheist anyway.

I have a decent circle of friends, and I know quite a few people, but I wouldn't consider myself popular. I'm not really unpopular either.

I find people either likeable or the bane of the earth, but the funny thing is that the hatred i had for others made me somewhat likeable. They thought i was being funny instead of hurtful, and found it fun and ammusing. This only worked with fellow males, as calling most females as "dead behind the eyes harlots" ussually puts them off from you.

I go to a Catholic school with a very small student base (~220 students in the entire school). I am the only person that I know of that could be considered a nerd. It's strange, because everyone else is the All-American athlete/above average intelligence/incredibly popular type person that seems so...how to describe it...generic. It's something straight out of a Disney movie. Anyway, I ramble too much. Everyone knows each other, but I'm not at all popular. I have a single person who I would consider a "friend," and about four others I occasionally talk to. That's all. I generally keep to myself.

Instinctively, I would respond that I was completely unpopular (what geek isn't), then I think about all the people (including jocks) that would say "Hi [Signa]!" as I passed by. Hell, I didn't even know everyone that felt like saying hi to me.

maybe there was something funny about me that they would laugh at me behind my back, but I know a lot of people respected me. I was one of those guys that just got along with a lot of people, yet didn't really hang out with any one group. I doubt the maturity of high schoolers to feel this way, but it was quite possible they just respected me for being myself.

I was never close to popular at school.
I'm not an overly social person and frankly; it doesn't bother me.
Ever since I was a wee lad most people have had a tendency to annoy the living bejesus out of me.
I've always had a select couple of friends and liked it that way.

I was one of them, "known and liked by almost everyone, but very few close friends" type guys. I was known for several things, including

- being a human dictionary
- being good at voice acting
- having a deep voice
- writing a haiku about duck sandwiches
- walking at inhumanly fast speeds
- chugging V8

My school life story: Stuff I was known for, and my descent into obscurity
Elementary School: I was "the smart guy/ the human dictionary." I never really studied hard, and half of the time, I'd hand in homework late, but I still got good grades. I also had a broad vocabulary, and almost always got perfect marks on spelling tests. Also had a deep voice and a talent for voice acting. I had very few close friends, but we got to hang out a lot. Good times.

Early High School: I lost my human dictionary status, mainly because no one really gives a shit about how well you can spell (as long as you use your computer's spell check when writing essays), and the "big words" I knew in elementary school weren't considered to be so big anymore. Soon, however, I would end up having other things to be known for.

In Grade 10, I wrote a haiku for my English class. It goes something like this

Duck Sandwich
The Lord of the Pond
Eternal Glory of Bread
Behold, they are one

So I was known as the Duck Sandwich guy, the guy with the random sense of humour, and to some extent still, the guy who was good at reading/voice acting. However, my close friends had begun to make friends with other people who I didn't know too well, and then started hanging out with them a lot more, and I begun to feel ignored.

Late High School: I went to a different high school after 2 years of the first one. I had friends at both schools, but the relative social isolation I went through at the first school, as well as the fact that the school sucked, compelled me to switch schools. I had the same problems as far as hanging out with friends goes and still do to this day. Most of my friends, as well as any girls I was interested in, were far too busy to hang out with me often/at all. I became known as the inhumanly fast walking guy later on. I would later go on to buy food from the grocery store at lunch, instead of fast food restaurants, because grocery store food was cheaper/healthier. I often bought a 2 litre bottle of V8 and drink it all in one day, as well as buy loaves of bread to eat. Nothing on them. Just slices of 100% whole wheat texas toast.

During my high school prom, I figuratively hopped around from group to group without any group to really call my own, dancing with friends, acquaintainces, people I didn't know. I still felt that pesky feeling of isolation that lingered since the beginning of high school, mainly because I didn't have a date. However, afterwards it was fun to look at all the pictures and videos of me that ended up on facebook, and the friend requests from people I didn't know. It was a sort of "15 minutes of popularity."

Should be interesting to see how college will turn out...

Self-imposed outcast. My friends were all outside of my tiny school in a big city. I've got a few good friends and that's all I need.
Holding parties is fun though. As is salsa dancing and drama classes.

Being Popular Isn't what its all cracked up to be Yeah I was never Joe popular but i was definitly in the top ten because I was funny. You make people laugh you can charm them,Keeps you from getting your ass kicked.but the pressure and time consuming it just takes a lot from you. Plus Loosing your virginity to a black chick in the bathroom of a movie theater was nice :D I mean I stopped being popular because nerds have way more fun and the friends acually give a shit to what you have to say instead of mindless shit pops talk about (football, sex ext.) I mean At the end of the day playing CoD4 With nerdy friends is more fun then walking around and hanging out near the Local Sonic.

I started off very unpopular at highschool/primary school. Although at the same time I was fairly popular. I tend to be the kind of person that everyone has an opinion about.
As a rule of thumb the 'uncool' kids all liked me while the 'cool' kids tended to hate me, both sides more or less because I really enjoy taking the piss out of morons, which most of the 'cool' kids were. As soon as drinking became involved my social life became a lot more active and because of my uncanny ability to abuse my body I'm very well known and liked at uni, engineers like drinking :)

Everyone knew me because I was the best artist in school. I designed the letterman patches for the sports teams, so all the jocks thought I was alright. And the outcasts liked me because I could draw comic-book stuff and "trippy" artwork good. The popular kids liked to be on my good side because they'd always ask me to do their student body election posters. I was also in with the band geeks because I was a soloist in Concert Choir.

Basically, I floated around the middle of everyone and the popular kids kissed my ass because I had something they wanted.

As for friends, we were the "arty" kids that sat around the big tree outside at lunch instead of the cafeteria listening to the Pixies and Smiths albums.

Oh, my biggest moment of fame at school was when myself, four other members of the choir, and the biggest garage band at school did a fairly decent version of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" at the talent show. This was just after "Wayne's World" popularized the song.

I was the coolest kid ever. So cool, I even had all the ladies follow me!
..

Okay, okay, that wasn't true. Who would have thought.

I was a somewhat silent type, considered sensitive and.. cute. Also "admired" because I never gave up on something, whether it was a project or a simple task. A shy, silent blonde girl. Yeah, well, needless to say I wasn't the amazingly popular type. I had plenty of friends and I even joined some kind of 'technical'/'behind the stage' crew for events and shows, which did earn me quite a bit of status among the plebs.. I mean, students.

I knew about a lot of things that were going outside of the classroom, and I was involved with many other things outside classroom hours. I also had plenty of actual friends among teachers and people like the system administrator.

I guess I wasn't "popular" (just friendly, "neutral") with the rest of the students, but I was very happy with what I did. Gave me a kind of feeling that I was 'special', y'know?

College life is a whole lot better than high school. I have a lot of friends! And once again, I joined something 'special', and have a good amount of friends among older students and teachers/staff. Just makes me feel good.

The story of my life. Cough. I wonder who is actually going to respond to this, as I just realized it's more of a questionnaire than a discussion.. o_O

I was the funky guy, someone that acted completely different than he was supposed to and was tolerated/accepted by most. I was an Asian that did the whole AP Science and was in the Math League and everything, but I also did choir, theatre, and was generally not the "quiet Asian type" nor the "stupid Asian jock/ricer" stereotype that I was supposed to be. I was almost like the spunky side kick that's a bit messed up in the head, so people either tolerated me (because I had RANDOM skills) or liked to hang around me. I still remember those halcyon days, when my friends would shout my last name down entire hallways, marking my arrival.

I had dominion over the nerdy, awkward boys!
I guess I was kinda a manipulative jerk, sometimes, but I never realised that I was attractive.
XD I still need to figure out how to apply base and eye shadow.
Yeah, I never got that down either

Why, thank you, but I assure you that I wasn't the cool kid everybody was hanging out with or talking about. :p
