Aside from all the MW2 hate, why don't we talk about the FPS genre in general? We've seen how games are starting to go towards the whole character customization but in what way do you think the FPS genre should innovate and advance towards? Do you think the whole character customization is the way to go? Do you think RTS/FPS hybrids are the way to go? Do you think RPG elements are the way to go? Motion controls? What do you think?

Balance.
The best FPS games have balanced weapons, and even if the weapons aren't balanced (A game like Halo is a good example), they are spread out and spawned in intervals that means that a person can't pick up one weapon and continuously dominate games with it.

I think FPS games has the need to advance like that of a toaster has.

You can think critical on it, but in the end... It's not necessary.

A return to large scale and versatility would be nice.

Instead of the current trend for flewer players in more tightly controlled single/multi player maps. It's like the developers are trying to kill the creativity of their players on purpose.

Also, the end of re-bloody-generating-patronising-health.

Actually, not just level layouts. Just make 90's style shooters with today's technology problem solved. These games are fun to play, have a sense of humour and are not bogged down by pseudo-realism.

I think that FPS should splinter off into:
- CODs
- ARMAs
- TF2s
- and RTS/FPSs

That way there's room enough for all of them!
Gotta love them fish! =D

But I think you can kinda categorize them better, "Arcade", "Realism", "Competitive/Casual shooter".

I'd like to see at least a few FPS games that go back to games like Half Life. It'd be nice to play an FPS game where the entire story isn't kill this guy, then go kill this guy.

i think when you play some elite solder badass, you should get to pick the weapons for each mission (for single-player), rather than combing the floor for your favorite weapon.

Go up. I think the jetpack in the new Killzone is going to be really cool. It may not work out, but at least its something other than run and shoot or drive and shoot. Reach has a flight class, but it doesn't seem like its the same as Killzone. Reminds me of Tribes.

Battlefield 3.

That is all.
i salute you sir

-fps need to incorporate a better physics engine (ex. BF:BC2)
-I want a campaign that doesnt depend on my character of other characters surviving(if i die on a level i don't want to redo the level, i want my character dead, mission failed and continue with a different character and a different level, think heavy rain)
-nazi zombies anyone?
-i want hardcore to feature a bleed out feature that when you get shot u start bleeding out and if u dont get healed in time u will die
-grenades dont just send you flying, they rip you apart in the process (almost like COD WAW)

More customization (Call of Duty 4)

More RPG elements (Borderlands, Call of Duty 4 level-up system)

Better story (Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect)

Improved Physics (Crysis, Red Faction)

Improved multiplayer maps (Call of Duty 4)

More emphasis on SKILL rather than luck or cheap tactics (i.e.: Camping, Rocket Launchers, Shotguns, Commando)

Notice Call of Duty 4 is mentioned a lot there. There's a reason I think CoD4 is the best shooter ever made. It did a lot of things right if you ask me.

I agree, although I'd like to put tf2 as a hat-simulator, not a competitive/casual shooter.
