Greetings, fellow Escapists! As a consummate lurker (I also minored in general stealth), I have long enjoyed simply observing from the sidelines all your most exhilarating, outrageous, brilliant, personal and heartwarming moments for a very long time. By that I mean that registered long after thoroughly familiarising myself with this place. But now I finally would like to ask you to willingly share you thoughts with me!

Irrelevant intro aside, I truly would love your input for a paper. Feel free to answer all of the things, some of the things or none of the things and in whatever volume or style you feel comfortable with, since I don?t need any actual concrete data, but just a collection of opinions and a feel of the atmosphere.

Ready? LET'S GET THIS BAD BOY ON THE ROAD THEN!

1. What kind of advertising pitch do you find the most compelling when browsing fresh video game trailers and announcements? The emotional absurdity of figures like the venerable Peter Molyneux? The simple name stamp of a trusted developer, like Tim Schafer or Suda 51? Or are you not concerned with such frivolities and go straight for the facts (gameplay footage)? Mayhap, a combination of each?

2. Do you feel that if people were more moved by certain types of advertisements than by others, that it would improve the quality of released games, since less deceptively crappy products would get attention from customers?

3. How are you affected by game reviews and recommendations from your friends? Do you read all reviews or stick to a couple of authors who?s tastes you feel align with yours?

4. Do you feel upset when trusted sources violate your expectations? A favourite caustic critique recommends an underwhelming game, a good friend raves about what turns out to be a shitty time-sink or a favourite developer takes a different approach to their craft, for example. Speaking of which, here is the best place for specific examples, list ?em all.

5. How do you feel when a game turns out a lot better than you expected it to? Do you think you would have liked it as much if you expected it to be okay or amazing?

6. Do you have any ideal examples of a certain game genre, to which you compare all other entries?

7. How about preconceptions about genres/franchises you haven?t tried or are familiar with, like ?all JRPGS are about impenetrable plots covered by combat spreadsheets with stickers on them?? Are they personal (you can't recall when you came with it and how) or prevalent in your social group? Don?t be shy, this isn?t about bashing, but about stating something you are simply aware of and may not even partake in.

8. Do you have any minimal requirements that must met by certain genres? Not to be ideal, but to be enjoyed or at least tolerated you, like ?a survival horror game must have frantic and unwieldy combat??

TL;DR I did go overboard with phrasing the questions, but since this isn?t a survey, y?all can read only one and answer only that one. Every little bit helps!

1: I completely ignore advertising for games, just like all advertizements, because they can say whatever they feel like about the product they are advertising. I base my game purchases of off reviews and my friends' opinion. Acually, I suppose I use advertisements just to learn that something new now exists.

2: Good games get bad ads, and bad games get good ads. The ad is irrelevant to the product.

3: I might read a few reviews, but mostly it's my friends(who always get games when they come out) who help me decide wether to get a game or not.

4: Yeah... I let my friends talk me into getting battlefield 3 and Black ops, even though I knew that "modern" (As in modern setting, not release date) shooters aren't my thing. I don't follow specific critics, and I pay more attention to the games than developers, so those I'm not to dissapointed by.

5: Seems like the same question as number 4...

6: Nope.

7: All modern set shooters,(CoD, Battlefield, Counter-strike, ect) are terrible becase the multiplayer pretty much ends up being whoever shoots first, because people die too easy.

8: There must be some kind of level up or item unlock system. I want the gameplay to feel different as I progress.

Hope it helps, and if you want to clarify question 5 as saying something other than a paraphrased question 4, quote me with it and i'll give an answer to it.
