so I've been thinking allday long on what would make a solid concept for a decent zombie rpg. I would like to know of you what you think of my ideas and what you would like to add or do differently.
setting: the Netherlands(that is just where I live, there are plenty of other countries that would do but this one helps with the story). I picked this country as a setting because there are litle to no guns here which will balance combat hopefully and because there are a lot of people with different etnic backgrounds which will hopefully make for a wider variety of charecters. Also sometime after the first infection parts of the country have been floded(spelling?)and is kept under quarentine to prevent further outbreak.
story and pacing: it's your regular zombie story that will go through different stages of infection(or whatever you want to call it). The story will be chapter based(five or more chapters)and will take place over the course of a few years. With every new chapter new and stonger zombies will be spawned, some types of food will be beyond expiration date and some buildings will have changed into settlements, etc. Around chapter three you will discover more on how and why the infection took place.
NOTE:you can chose to do a tutorial before you start the story wich will give you a tour around town and introduce you to different gameplayelements(say, you have to go shopping wich will teach you about scavenging).
combat: you can chose between melee(pipes, chairs or whatever you would like to swing around) and ranged(bow, crossbow, slingshot and stuf). I like to remove guns to balance melee and ranged out and to make sure you aren't some unstoppable superhuman. In order to use a weapon you must hold down a button to make you stand still, melee however can swing there weapon while running but it would be hard to that constantly as it would make targeting your enemie difficult. You must also keep your enimies in focus, making fighting against hordes awkward.
Gametype: you can pick scavanger, leader or elder. The scavanger is just out there collecting food or stuf that people will like for his/her settlement(more on that later). The leader obviosly leads a settlement and must maintain order and make sure everyone is hapy(you'll have a bit of micromanegment to do). The elder is more of a negosiator and will be treated with more respect. Age is a major factor in being accepted as a certain role(an eighteen year old won't be accepted as a leader easily). It is verry much possible to change from scavanger to leader or from leader to elder, however it doesn't work the other way around.
Settlement: you can pick anywher you like to make a settlements, though buildings will be preffered. You set up defenses and stockpile food and other goods there. It will be the homebase of your group.
Victoryconditions(sortof): when you have finished all mayor quests in a chapter and have gathered enough food and goods to keep everyone satisfied for a couple of months you will be able to advance to the next chapter. you will keep all leftovers from those goods and your settlement will be left unchanged
Character: first off you chose your age, sex and education wich will determine what type off character you will start of with. Sex will change their attitude towards you sometimes(for example: some male chararcters will not accept a female character to lead them or visa versa). Education will determine for example if you're able to fix some stuf, pick locks, speech, etc.
Alies: you can start of with a family which will immidiatly count as allies or find allies all over the place some of these will ask of you to take in their family. You can also have cats and dogs. Dogs will function as a alarmsystem. Cats will add to hapiness.
Enemies: not much to say about them, they're fucking zombies. they will just become a bit stonger and grow in number with every chapter
difficulty: your difficultysetting will not affect how strong the zombies are. It will however change your starting point. Say, easy will have you start off in a quiet suburb while hard starts whithin the city. It is also still possible to move from one location to another, it all takes place on one map.
so what are your thoughts?
P.S. this is my first thread so please be gentle
