So after being bashed by three RL friends in an x-box live party i am wondering, how can you tell someone about the series and make it sound like something they would enjoy, or should I just stop trying and let them find it on their own?

Being on the internet right now and expecting not to encounter ponies is probably a similar experience to being on the internet and expecting not to encounter pornography. By this point the only useful thing you can do is convince them that MLP fans are not crazy (which you are, by the way).

Stop trying, maybe send them some captioned when it suites the situation, if they bash it then tell them you won't care about their opinion unless they give it a try first.

I have to do this with my friends with quite a lot of things I like because they are quick to call something 'gay' or 'shit' without even trying it out.

You could either:

A) Lie
B) Not expect a different reaction when you tell them about show directed at 12-year-old-girls
C) Not tell them at all

I would probably choose option C. I'm sorry if I sound like a total dick here. I'm just really freaking tired of seeing all the Pony topics.

Do what I did. When one of my mates was trying to use the info as blackmail. I just pretty much shouted "I watch My Little Pony"

Friends were fine with it.

Shut my mate up, that's for sure :D

Have you ever read A Clockwork Orange? Use a similar theater rig to show them mlp:fim. Alternatively, you could go the sane route and tell them about all the wonderful ponyish goodness in the show.

Don't. If they think it looks interesting, they'll look it up on their own. I mean, I'm as much of a fan of the show as the next guy (heck, I even made myself a pony Rubik's Cube), but bringing it up everywhere is just a little bit annoying.

If they spend any time on the internet, I'm sure they've noticed all the pony avatars, memes, etc. I discovered the show because I was curious about all the fuss and I looked it up myself, and that's all it takes honestly.

Heres the thing, you don't actually enjoy MLP enough to watch it constantly right? You mess around in MLP because of the sheer absurdity of older individuals liking a show intended for children. That or you're tired of societies social norms and you can watch whatever the hell you want to watch. Is that right?

Either way I see a couple options here, heres the one I would do. Someone else on another forum I go to did this, they dared a friend to watch MLP:FiM from the first episode to the last episode with them. First one to go crazy, fall asleep, have their genitals suck into their body, ect. lost and had to pay 10$. Regardless weather this convinces your friends to like MLP or not, many good times would be had by all and you would probably win 10$.

I am sort of in the process of doing that. I show them Pony Music Videos and parodies etc. and eventually let their own curiosity makes them watch the show and then they will completely understand when I tell them that I watch the actual episodes.

Not everyone is going to like ponies. Real world people are very different than internet people. Heck, my friends didn't all like Avatar: The Last Airbender. That's just how they are, but they understand that I like the show. One of my good friends still doesn't believe me that Wind Waker is a good game because it looks cartoony. He's missing out on one of Ganon's worst (read: really horrible way to go but awesome to watch, not that the death was poorly executed) deaths ever.

the best you can do is to tell them to give it a chance and explain why you like it. If they don't like the show, they can at least be for the things you like. If they can't do that then you need new friends.

I always phrase it like this: "When you get your first glimpse of the show, it's not going to be very appealing. But if you take the time to watch an episode, you'll see that it isn't cutesy or saccharine at all apart for the art style. The stories certainly aren't. They're not dark, exactly, but they're not a bit lighter than any other show."

Well I Watched the show first time at around around 6am shown by a friend. Intention was that he finally found out what this Vg-Cats Comic was about (http://e621.net/data/6b/a2/6ba2258c57f17175ec07802a0f45b0ed.jpg) - it was later removed from the site, because the author didn't like some of the reactions to it.

To his advantage was I the only one not to know the show yet, another friend had already heard of. It also helped a lot, that I saw the reference on a site I knew and liked before, it felt like somerhing you should have seen or rather a insider tip.

I think it is also important to mention that the fanfictions are, what make the Show the internet phenomenon that it is now. Best example is the ponie anthology (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tjb14VoWjg)

When you have to talk about your watching of a little girl's cartoon like you're coming out of the closet is when you know it's gone too far.
Bravo good sir.

The amount of obsession people get with this show is ridiculous.

This isn't the only topic I've seen about a guy trying to explain to his friends that he likes My little pony.

These topics are getting old, very fast (Not to hate the people for liking the show, but it's just getting incredibly stupid now, and it's becoming almost ironic). Seriously, what's up with you guys? Are you trying to prove some kind of non existent point, or something?

You can just tell them and not care what they think. It's what I did. They didn't stop being my friends or anything.

Curiosity takes over. It's natural. Just tell them about it, and sooner or later, they'll like it or they wont.
