Okay, so I guess I should start out stating that I absolutely know nothing about computers. Please forgive me if I use any false terminology here. We recently got some guy to program Linux into an old laptop of mine and now that it's in there, I have no idea how to use it. It's using some sort of program I guess I should call it, that's called Peppermint. I've tried looking up websites (on a different computer) to figure out how to use this "Peppermint Linux" as I am now calling it, and I'm having no luck. I tried to ask the guy who programmed it into the laptop, and he was of no help either (he's one of those guys who are really good at using and programming computers, but can't teach someone jack shit on how to use it). I could really use some help here, specifically on how to connect it to the internet using a Cisco antennae thingy.

If you check YouTube there are a few videos that should give you a general idea on how to use the OS but you probably won't find anything to solve your specific problem. You might get more help here if you explain what specific 'Cisco antennae thingy' you're trying to use.

Yeah, it plugs into a USB slot. It's small, black, and it has a little blue light thing on it that blinks when it's working. It has a CD that you need to put i nto download the software, but the computer doesn't even acknowledge it when I put it in.

In that case you'll have to find out the exact model of the dongle and see if there are drivers available for it compatible with your version of Linux and install them. If not you'll have to find an alternative with Linux support.

Try following the guide here. http://peppermintos.net/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=139. The cd will only have windows drivers on it.
