I am now convinced that youtubers thrive on controversy and negative press.

Because holy hell these guys are still uploading the same repetitive content about the Diablo/Blizzard controversy.

YongYea made 7 videos about it.

HeelsvsBabyFace made 11 videos about it.

Every other Youtuber in the gaming scene made 1 or 2 about it themselves.

And I have seen this same outbreak of videos with similar controversies in anything about Videogames and movies. Like Mundanematt made practically 50 videos about the whole fallout from The Last Jedi.

At this point I am convinced they are all doing this more to generate that youtube monies they make with ads. And the people in the comment sections eats it all up. I mean these guys never made videos of this sheer volume and press coverage for anything positive.

What did you think their motive was before? Before you noticed it, I mean. Artistic integrity?

Then again when he was on The Official Podcast, Keemstar told that he thinks it's his responsibility to do his job, even if that's reporting on YouTube and other social media drama.

Don't know who those peeps are, but ultimately it all boils down to moneyyyyyy! Never put your faith into any of these sorts of hacks. Or anything or anyone ever. The disappointment becomes easier to bear that way.

And this is different from traditional media... how?
Its because these guys like the claim that they have better standards then traditional media. That they have journalistic integrity and some other nonsense I was fed with.

Its YouTube. The whole damn thing is a pingpong match of Drama. MundaneMatt makes a video about Razorfirst, Razorfist makes a video about Boogie, Boogie makes a video about the Quartering, the Quartering makes a video about SmashyMouth55, SmashyMouth55 makes a video about LezPlayGames, LezPlayGames makes a video about KiraKiss and KiraKiss makes a video about MundaneMatt.

Its an endless cycle of the telephone game perpetuated by con men and women who rely on clicks for cash.

You just realized that now? You gotta know how to abuse the youtube algorithm to make money.

I feel I always knew, but this Diablo Immortal controversy was the moment where I just saw it happen right in front of my eyes and happening in real time. And actually looking at the content they make and they ended up saying the exact same sentences they said in videos prior.

And sheer amount of memes that is just recycled. Just.....stop. The point was made. We get it.

You're not the target. The ravenous followers are. The ones who have a stake in this race and validate themselves based on the popularity of other people's videos.

Having journalistic integrity is the exception, for most it's just a buzzword used as sales-pitch. In any case, Youtube makes it specially difficult to not be topical because the recommendation algorithms give such strategy an advantage over less topical channels.

Added to that, there is some persistent cynicism in the Youtube community that in general favors negative attitudes over positive ones.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Its always been this way. Remember back in the day Anita Sarkeesian. Whenever she would upload a vid talking about video games a bunch of idiots would jump on it just to insult her. In fact more than a couple youtubers build their careers from doing it.

It's not as if the people that watch these Youtubers are just poor naive lemmings. As soon as some story like this pops up all those people that watch them start sending comments and messages to the Youtuber asking them to cover this. This is a system that feeds on itself until people get bored of it.

It's not as if we didn't see this effect with the topic discussions on these very forums back in 2013.

Elsa Spider-Man garbage.

...Explain?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKp2gikIkD8

tl;dr: Basically tons of animated videos with superhero characters (and pregnant Elsa for some reason) randomly put together as "nursery song videos" by channels exploding the Youtube tag algorithm. It's less like "somebody is doing something random in the Internet" and more "somebody has a production line of pre-manufactured randomness"

As much as you can blame the 'journalist', you can also blame us as a society. Every piece of work is written for an audience and that means journalists need to write what interests us. They would not be able to earn money if we didn't want this controversy.

And we actually only pretend we want journalistic integrity. We want stories that prove our baises
