This was supposed to be the year for things I was so excited for 6 things I have been increadibly hyped about.

Batman v Superman
Warcraft the movie
Batman the Killing Joke movie
Warhammer Total War
World of Warcraft Warcraft Legion.
And the Samurai Jack re-launch

BUT.

Batman v Superman is now the most hated movie ever and I thought it was eh not the worst thing I have ever seen.

Batman The Killing Joke the movie failed and now suddenly the comic itself is now considered a bad comic (Its was my favorite Batman comic book)

Warcraft movie failed with the risk of no sequal. And even if there will be it will be on a cheaper budget with chinese actors and only avaliable in China and it will look even worse.

Warhammer Total War is not that discussed on the whole web, even though this is the last Warhammer Fantasy related thing we will have an awhile after the abomination that is Age of Sigmar. But that freakin Pre-Order DLC for Chaos Warriors alinated enough people appearently. All I am saying is that I hoped this game would get more popularity because I think it derserves it, its so far my PC Game of the Year.

And I dread that the new Adult Swim Samurai Jack is gonna be negatively received because of the new focus on being "Dark, Violent, and Brutal" basically Samurai Jack is gonna get Edgy. And I just know from many people that edgy means Bad. They hated it when Looney Tunes got edgy (Loonatics Unleashed), they hated it when Sonic got edgy (Shadow the Hedgehog) I just dread that the samething will happen to Jack. Also they said it was gonna come out this year, but so far only a few images so its most likely delayed to a later year so I get no Samurai Jack this year.

The only thing that stopped this year from being utter shit for me is that World of Warcaft Legion ended up being great at launch and the content so far is steller.

Anyway I apoligize for the whole year I acted. This year was a massive dissipointment for me.

Maybe get a self-enclosed hobby? One that you rely on your own motivation and skill to achieve? Like I'm working hard on my 40k Army from Armies on Parade this October. Its keeping me busy, and even if I don't win(which I will), feeling part of something and giving myself a set goal feels nice.

I try not to get too excited about things that other people create, because they're not me. And while that may seem like I'm saying 'I'm the best!' what I mean is that I know who I am and what I'm capable of doing. I would never say I could make a game better than Bioshock, and I would never try to. But some kid in Russia might try and get on Greenlight, and everyone is poorer for it.

Likewise, I would never have attempted a Warcraft movie, and while I laud the effort, none of the people involved should have been involved. So knowing myself means I know my own limitations, and since I don't know what other people's limitations are, I never build up my expectations of them. That way I'm either totally prepared for mediocrity, or pleasantly surprised as quality.

Also watch more Ponies. Everyone should watch at least on Pony episode once a week. Today's episode was about an adorable Griffin who was just the most previous thing ever! Consider it a Doctor's Order.

It's okay. Hype has gotten the better of everyone at some point. Now you get to join the cool club of world weary pessimists! (I'm only partially joking)

No I have had these pessimistic feelings after the early days of GamerGate and the certain revelations that came of it (AND LETS LEAVE THAT AS IT IS!!!)

Its called passion. You want things you enjoy to be enjoyable. You want these things to be appreciated. You want to not have people just say "Get over it" or "Who cares?" because -you- care.

And you want people who dont care to stop sticking their grubby gross fingers all up in your pies! Stop making my apple pies into carrot cakes!

so wait, Batman: The Killing Joke failed? Why cause some people didn't like it?

It got made. It exists. People will be playing it for the next 20 years. The Big Lebowksi was critically hated and bombed on the box office, but years later it found cult status on DVD and now it has a fucking religion.

Why do you care so much about what others think?

This year sucks because game I wanted to be so good is so good but other people don't think so. So fucking what!

I couldn't care less that you think Pacific Rim sucks while loving that piece of thrash that's called Evangelion.

Well I think what he's saying is there's a difference between being passionate and disappointed, and simply being mean spirited and bitter. And he was coming off more mean than disappointed, and he regrets that.

Well, some people can be really shitty to you for caring about things they find trivial, so I can relate to them.

But yes, you shouldn't worry about what others think. I can't blame you for being disappointed. The last several things I was excited for let me down. I'm really hoping FF15 and Persona don't.

When what others think decides if the series will continue, it kind of does. Or the direction of the series. Its one thing to not care that you like mustard on your french fries instead of ketchup, or having your hair a certain way, another to want comic or video game movies to be faithful, or for a movie you like to be popular so they make more.

Everything that you like will always have its bunch of detractors/the naysayers and a plethora of dissenting opinions from a variety of perspectives. It sucks to hear that the things you've been excited about have not lived up to the hype.

I appreciate your passion. But that very same passion is what lead you create a reactionary "Pacific Rim Sucks" thread --- that wasn't constructive, insightful or remotely interesting. It was a mean-spirited rant where it looked like you weren't going to listen to opinions that didn't align with yours. (Operant word being 'looked', I could be wrong.) Your attack on Pacific Rim, at the time, was no different from how others might senselessly bash what you might like. There's no need to perpetuate that cycle of negativity.

Why do I bring that up? Because that very same passion that you possess can be used in a more constructive manner. Opposing opinions can often shed light on a new perspective, it's up to you to not attach so much of your personal worth to the aforementioned entertainment and art. Disagreements are not attacks, unless you let them be.

Still, if there's one thing you can take away from this: Regardless of the reception something might receive, it does not invalidate your opinion. Own it, be proud, share that new perspective with others...just try not to bash other people or their tastes in order to get that point across.

Along with the salt, I will say a certain overly-critical view on how things turned out. Killing Joke was okay and that doesn't make the comic itself bad because that isn't what people are generally complaining about. As for Jack, I'm adopting wait-and-see posture, because that's the only sensible thing to do. The rest, I'm indifferent about.

I thought Total War: Warhammer was really popular and everyone liked it? I mean its a strategy game, they're never going to make CoD numbers, I dunno what you were expecting.

Also, if AoS and the death of WHFB made you sad, look into Malifaux. It's not Fantasy by any means but the tone is very like Fantasy's weird dark humor and it plays a and feels like Mordheim.

There's a good reason for it to be hated. It failed to deliver on many levels. You have the two biggest comic book characters in history onscreen together for the first time in a film. People have been waiting for it for a long time. And look what we got, a shit filled shit sandwich.

As much as I want DC to make good live-action films (I'm more of a DC guy than Marvel so it really irks me when I get accused of being a Marvel fan boy because I find their cinematic output to be better). But so far they have failed to deliver.

Batman v Superman was one of the most conflicting films I've ever seen. Parts of it were fantastic. Parts of it were awful. Trying to reconcile that in my brain nearly gave me an aneurysm. (The extended cut is much better, though.)

I can understand precisely the kind of feeling you get when you're emotionally invested in seeing a film or game or whatever succeed and then it comes out and it's the butt of jokes all over the Internet. You've invested so much of your own self-esteem into the film that every jab at it feels like a personal attack.

I wasn't too hyped about the Warcraft film. As far as I'm concerned, it's a good five or six years too late - I'm not into Warcraft anymore, and the general public isn't into fantasy films anymore.

As for Total Warhammer...I'm still playing that game. I never stopped! It's the best Total War game ever, in my opinion. The only thing that troubles me is that Games Workshop apparently decided to set the franchise on fucking fire just before the game came out. That's just...that's bad business sense.

Why you have the need to apologize?
Even there were a lot of negativity about these movies/games, we are still discussing them for our enjoyment.

For example lets say Persona 5, one of the games I am REALLY EXCITED to play, is a piece or sh*t. Well bad for me, but at least I will b*tch about it and I will enjoy it god dammit!!!

GW did that due to them losing the Chapterhouse Studios lawsuit (you can look it up). Essentially, the court ruled that many of GWs designs were sufficiently generic that their trademarks could not be used to prevent others making similar/compatible components for their models that GW themselves did not provide. GW trashed WHFB because it was too generic Tolkein-esque fantasy, and have replaced it with something that is sufficiently distinct that it's trademarks will hold up, even if it's fairly crap looking. Throwing a long running and well loved setting under a bus in a fit of corporate pique is par for the course for that awful company.

I graciously accept your apology. You are forgiven.

Also, thank you for reminding me that I need to make a thread about Total War Warhammer being not so great.
