I made this thread to talk about Katawa Shoujo and to get more people to try it
I found these a video and an article to describe/review this visual novel.
the video and article link http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/01/unexpected-sincerity-disabilities-girls-and-katawa-shoujo/

as the video states Katawa Shoujo contains adult content; but it can be disabled in the options menu.
even when disabled it removes sexual content and most nudity but not all of it. Even if left enabled they are a very minuscule part of the visual novel.
it took a about of 23 hours when combining the time taken reading 5 stories. only about 30-ish minutes of reading at most(if you are reading slowly) has adult content.
I found out about Katawa Shoujo after seeing a recent youtube video from one of the people I am subscribed to. so i looked up the visual novel. If care which video for some reason that I don't understand then feel free to click on the link [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSOIbSdA5Sc].

It originated on 4chan. people claimed it is very touching, and handles it's sensitive subject matter of disability tastetfuly and in a respectful way. I never heard of anything associated to 4chan that was handled tastetfuly before this. naturally I was skeptical but since it's FREE (on the katawa shoujo website in Torrent or .exe form) the and I was open minded enough to I give it a fair chance.

this was the first visual novel I ever read and I was ever into Romance/Friendship stories. also I am not very emotional; so I rarely cry. if it's over something fictional it is even more rare.

the people internet did not lie when they said it is a touching story that handled it's subject matter tastetfuly. it's well written as well too.
what I am saying is surprisingly something nice came out 4chan.
I am glad I gave it a chance. I think People should be open minded and give it a chance.

I think got something positive out of this visual novel. I am able to look at physically disabled people in a little more open minded way. It kinda feels easier to look beyond there disabilities and see them as just normal people. well I least will not pitying disabled people now.

for a shorter version my opinion of Katawa Shoujo I will use a meme just because the idea of it partiality came from 4chan.

1-Hanako-seen all endings
it took a little over 4 hours to complete. I did not cry at all. there were a some moments were I felt a significant amount of emotion and I came close to crying a couple of times but no cigar. but i did actually care about a few characters to an extent.
the one of the ending almost made me cry.

1.5-kenji-complete failure ending
while going for rin's story I saved a key point and I purposely took kenji's ending just for the fun. It's quite amusing if you don't get it on your first attempt.

2-Rin-seen all endings
it took almost 5 hour to finish. during that I never once came close to crying. There were a few touching moments that made me smile and a few sad ones. I had very little reaction other then that. This is mainly because I am unable to relate to her character.
I understand why this it is best story to some people and why it makes them emotional from a technical level. my inability to related to the character prevents me from seeing this story that way. her story is second to last place.

3-Shizune-seen all endings
It took about 5:20 to finish it. I had even less emotion then i had on Rin's story. I could relate to Shizune better then could to Rin but that did not help enough. it's a nice story that is worth seeing once.
from a technical stand point Rin's story is better and that is why Rin's story got more emotion out of me. Shizune's story was pretty good but went ranking stories one has be the worst. the story in last place happens to be her Shizune's.

4-Emi-seen all endings
it took about 3:30 to finish the story. this was the first one of the stories to make my cry. I would say the story successfully manged to make me care about Emi a bit.
while it the first one to make me cry a little. I would say Emi's story is at second place.

5-Lilly-seen all endings
it took 4:40 to finish it and that's not including the time it would take to read the high amount the dialog from act 1 I skipped. the ending made me shed a few tears. the story made me care about Lilly a little. the ending was very emotional

6-Hanako(again)
I am missing one scene in the extras menu library. all need this one scene to get 100%. Instead of just speeding thought it just see/obtain that one scene; i want to re-experience the story.
it still can't decide if which story tied at first place is better so i guess they both win. I was really close to crying once again a few times but it never happened.

Ranking it term my favorite story to go though
1. Lilly or Hanako(it's tied)
2. Emi
3. Rin
4. Shizune
you could read this before seeing Hanako's story and Lilly's story but but you would be lacking context so it would be pointless to read it.

they were written by the same person who wrote Hanako's story. It sort of continues the story of what happens after Hanako's good ending. It's is kinda interesting and it might make you cry.
http://cplcrud.wordpress.com/4ls-era-fanworks-and-scraps/a-runners-afternoon/
http://cplcrud.wordpress.com/4ls-era-fanworks-and-scraps/a-runners-afternoon-part-2/
so did you cry?
the short awnser for me is no
read them shortly after re-reading Hanako's story in KS with the good ending. while playing this song [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Y6DNQdlxNo] in the back round. well I can say I tried but feeling enough emotion to cry is something i can't easily do. it It's just who I am
#token:0#(in the spoiler tag)= 's and Lilly's
I don't know what the cause is so just deal with I guess or if you know how to fix it then tell me how because it slightly bothers me.

Please capitalize your I's. It's really distracting.

OT:
Congrats! Its a pretty fun game.
I'm a Hanako man myself, so I thought it was a really good arc.
Hey, if you like that, check out Clannad (the anime series, although it's based on a visual novel). It's second season, after story, is especially good.

I find this difficult to believe.

You're honestly expecting us right-minded folk to believe that you, or indeed anyone, CHOSE Hanako, and actually managed to avoid Emi's route?
Pure balderdash!

Everybody gets Emi's route the first time!

ok my I's are fixed

I knew of Clannad a long time ago before this but once I found out what it was about had very interest in watching it. I am a lot more wiling to give it a shot now after "playing" this. I use the term "playing" very loosly

And yet, you don't in this post.

Not used to capitalizing I's, are you?

OT: Clannad's worth it. The first season is your usual high school romanc; suprising, just well animated and well-executed. Clannad: After story, however, is a beautiful family drama.

I did[footnote]Edit: get Emi, I mean[/footnote], but I did it on purpose. It's pretty freakin' obvious what you have to do to get Emi, so anyone who understands basic romance tropes should be able to avoid it if they want to. Choosing Hanako on your first try is tough (the question that decides whether you go on her path or get the manly picnic is kind of unclear), but it's possible. I'd call shenanigans if he said he managed to get Rin on his first try, though. At least if he did it on purpose.

Come to think of it, you translate the Japanese half of the thread title, and you get "I beat crippled girls[footnote]Yeah, that's the right translation, I'm not being needlessly offensive. It started out as an off color joke from some Dojin artist, and then 4chan found it and liked it[/footnote]." OP, you monster!

Hanako was my first too... man that sounds wrong:p

How do you feel about her motivations for doing what she did (the sex scene)?

I was legitimately upset by hanako's ending i got at first, then I was heart broken as I tried to get a different ending and found out she had sex with the guy so he he wouldn't leave her.
Call me emotional but that made me cry.
I felt so damn bad for hanako. I felt like her story was intetionally supose to be reflective of people who get shit on their entire lives and are a mess because no one's ever given the time to love them or care for them.
That part got me too. I didn't cry or anything () but I was still very upset. Poor Hanako never got to be happy D:

OT: You got Hanako on your first shot? You are clearly a god among us plebs. You should go for Emi next though, I think hers was the next most emotional.
I found Rin's to be... annoying more than anything else.

I probably got hanako because I'm very similar to her in real life.
I grew up without parents(I was kidnapped and abandoned), I was pretty much alone as a kid until I was about 14.
I spent so much time behind books about the universe and biology, and i skipped class so much, because I was harassed so badly by other kids at school.
Hanako's demenor and attitude is uncannily similar to my own, so I think that reclusive behavior and me taking the game seriously and acting as how I've acted in real life probably let me right to her.
Interesting. I got emi and Shizune first because I'm most like them. Always pushing myself, fairly aggressive and competitive. I didn't have parents around either (except when they tried to "acquire" me in my early years) and the bullying from my other family and peers pushed me to become aggressive and competitive.
I never thought of our experiences and personalities having an effect on what girls we'd get in games like this... You may have just given me a study to perform for my statistics and psychology classes! Thanks :D

I've played Hanako, Lilly, and Emi. I'm going to play Rin's sometime.

You can probably tell which one pierced my heart of stone and made me cry like a little girl.

EDIT:

The thing that I absolutely loved was the fact that she still remained her own person. Sure, she started out basically being Lilly's shadow but as the story went on you saw that she wanted to be treated like her own person. The scene with the pool table was one of my favorites for that reason.

The main thing that annoyed me was Hisao. He was reading a different script than Hanako or I, it seems. She very obviously likes him and is waiting for some kind of sign or confession, but never gets one. Even when a classmate tells her that he has feelings for her, he still doesn't do anything. Even though he saw that classmate tell her and saw her positive reaction. It all culminates in that second to last scene, where she tries to keep him and make him stay and do something by having sex with him. That scene and the following mutual breakdown in the park and oh god I'm getting teary eyed again.

Why was he so damn stupid? Socially awkward or no not even Kenjii would be that blind (hehe) to such big cues! If Hisao had given any real attention to Hanako's feelings then the arc would have ended sometime in Act 3 with smiles and roses! :(

Hisao is famous as the Master of Romance. You've done Shizune, so you probably know all about his misunderstanding of the meaning of the word "comfort". Many a person has clicked that button with innocent intentions only to see everything come crashing down around their ears.

Well that part I don't get because I knew exactly what was meant by "Comfort" and I knew exactly what was going to happen. My girlfriend made me choose that option first
The people at 4LS wrote such a good game but made the main character as perceptive as a brick wall with cataracts and severe tinnitus.

Huh, Emi was my first too. And by mistake, too. I wanted to go after Shizune and BOOM! Emi's there. So I just went with it. But really, it was easy.
I also ended up up with Rin's good ending on my first try. Which is also sort of hard because she's harder to read (And...get?) then Emi.

But yeah, I was also surprised by this game. Really good writing and touching moments. And it has so many different endings that it makes the replay value high.
