Putting out consistently polished and high quality releases every year and getting hated on merely for the business model behind it all.

I don't feel too sorry for them. The people that tend to hate them for the business model are the same people who were never likely to even look at the game anyway. They'll crow about how the games are 'nothing but a roster update' or whatever, but they'd never consider buying the game no matter what was done to it. I've got FIFA 12, and it is a HUGE leap forward from 2010 World Cup. Will every installment be that large a jump? No. But they are always refining things, always tuning, always trying to make the games better. And they're making good money while doing so. Sure, some people may hate them, but you can take those people about as seriously as one would take a vegetarian protest of a steak house.

I can't feel sorry based on the fact that they still make millions on those games despite the hate. I really just don't care.

I don't. They likely loved the sports that they are working with and have a very rewarding job in which they make their companies millions. Why would they care what a bunch of nerds on the internet think of them?

Well, I feel bad for those devs who would like to do something new with it, but aren't given a choice.

Yeah, it really sucks that developers can release the same game every year while only adding small things to the actual game.

Feels bad.

The same as any sequal really, only changing small things and paying another £40 for things that could have easily been cheap DLC or an update.

Note im an outsider on the playing/ watching sports thing. Just doesnt appeal to me, i would rather play it in real life. Well, maybe not the REALLY specialist stuff like rally or boxing, stuff like that. Rally is enjoyable to watch :D

I only purchase a new iteration of Franchise X either every 5+ years or when a member of my teams is on the cover. So I feel bad in the sense that people hate on a year-to-year basis despite the generally great quality, but they rack in so much cash on a yearly basis that it's hard to feel bad for them.

I think that roster updates should really be a DLC option instead of a new disc-based game. That way they could focus on providing a better experience from game-to-game, even though its a science at this point. This would make significantly less money though.

I hate them because their just like cod. A cash cow. Despite the millions of dollars they make from them, their still gonna get hated on because of how little innovation has been put into it (I may be wrong on this because i haven't played a sports game since like 2006 but it still pretty much looks like the same). Also I play video games to get away from sports.

I know, all that work they put into tweaking some stats and reskinning some player models. And all the work going into updating those rosters. That's like a full month's work that they have to do in only a year. How do they manage to do that while maintaining such impeccable standards?

/sarcasm.

copy and pasting is easy work, and they do get paid, rather well (in comparison) for doing more or less nothing.

Not a chance. I'm a pretty big sports fan, and it's not that I want some revamped major gameplay changes every year. It's that they keep focusing on things that people don't care about and being lazy about some of the really easy to fix important things. For example, in NCAA Football 12 incoming recruiting classes have completely unrealistic stats and class rankings that don't resemble the current players at all. That should take an hour to fix, but they didn't do it. Just mess with some sliders on the automatic player generator. That shows me that they genuinely don't care about making the best game possible.
